After radio celebrity plugs Chesterfield troop's booth, popcorn orders top $28,000 A friendly jab at the American Civil Liberties Union has turned into a financial bonanza for a tiny nine-member Boy Scout troop from Chesterfield County. Troop 828, with an unexpected boost on Wednesday from nationally syndicated talk show host Glenn Beck, watched its struggling popcorn sales explode. Scouts at a downtown booth had to call for fresh supplies. A Web site was flooded with orders from buyers in 39 states. At last count, sales had topped $28,000. That set a record for the Boy Scouts' Heart of Virginia Council.

You are, of course, completely wrong. But don't let that stop you from pontificating.

No pontificating here. Tell me how I am wrong.

What's wrong with this statement?

Whatever an organization gets in for other so called targeted donations frees up money from the rest of the budget for the objectionable activities.

SA has a healthy local mail charity system,(I send my money directly to them.) You may write a check and go to the nearest supported location to drop it off. Do a little research.

"Just give directly to the charity of your choice."

Exactly right.

Everytime I go grocery shopping during the Christmas Season, I drop at least a buck, if not a five spot, in the SA bucket. When I write checks for charities, I scour lists of charities and usually decide on 2-3 each year, then send off a check directly to those charity. Middlemen are not needed.

Precisely--It is best to give to the charity you want to actually receive the money and not to a middle man whose overhead costs are almost criminal (like the CEO skimming big bucks a couple years ago) and whose policies you may diagree with.

Too bad Target has banned Salvation Army bell ringers, because there is no other way to give them money.

And I would go to church, if only they sent a free shuttle to my house to pick me up

You forgot to add: (sarcasm off) !

$20 of that $28,000 came from the Stormhands' household. Glad I could help.

It's $20 well spent.
And it's great popcorn, too.

I can't for the life of me understand how Linda Chao was ever associated with this group of charlatans.

I believe that the Labor Secretary is Elaine Chao, nominated after Linda Chavez withdrew.

Hopefully, this troop started a nationwide trend. There is motivation to give the wronged extra support when he takes his cause into the belly of the beast.

Oops.

Somehow I conflated the first and last names of both women.

I guess I must've been thinking back to the time when both were contributors to that PBS chat show, To The Contrary.

"Excuse me, but there is no way to make a "targeted" donation.

You are, of course, completely wrong. But don't let that stop you from pontificating."

When you target your donation they only shift someone else's
untargeted" monies to other questionnable destinations to achieve the same distribution goals.
