Yet another example of High School Bias
Biology Class

USE INTERNET RESOURCES AND OTHER REFERENCES TO RESEARCH TROPICAL RAIN FORESTS. DESCRIBE REASONS FOR THE DECLINE OF THE RAIN FORESTS, AND DISCUSS HOW THE RAIN FORESTS ARE AN INTREGAL PART OF THE EARTH'S ECOSYSTEMS.
GUIDE QUESTIONS
1. WHAT ARE "DEBT FOR NATURE" SWAPS? HOW CAN THEY BE USED TO ENCOURAGE THE PROTECTION OF TROPICAL RAINFORESTS?
2. WHY SHOULDN'T DEVELOPING COUNTRIES BE FORCED TO SHOULDER THE BURDEN OF PROTECTING TROPICAL RAIN FORESTS ALONE?
3. WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP PRESERVE THE RAIN FOREST?

This is a reaserch project in my biology class. Notice how my teacher seems to be advocating a position. Perhaps I disagree that we need to regulate the rain forest. I presume I would be rewaded with an F.
P.S. The all caps aren't mine; the teacher wrote it that way. Her caps lock apparently was stolen.

CAPS LOCK = 'teacher seems to be advocating a position.'
Not a coincidence.

Support school choice.
Stop the liberal indoctrinations

Read the PS...I guess I probably shouldn't have posted it that way. I just don't like this teacher, and not just because of this.

I forgot to post in the first post, but I am also wondering whether there is a school bias ping list, or if I should create one.

I had a real environmentalist for a "Earth science" teacher. When you turn in your project you'll know if you have one too. You'll make it nice with a PLASTIC spiral binder with a CELLOPHANE cover, then the teacher will point it out to the class and rant on how you are filling the land fills with that crap! Which is true unless you recycle it, but I had some great conversation and understood the passion behind the message.
p.s. How did you report on illegal immigration go?

It got delayed. The speech will now be given sometime in January. But I still have the thread and have pretty much a speech ready to go. I'll let you know after I give it.

Yeah, then after she hands the report back throw the report in the garbage right in front of her eyes.

1. The rain forests are indeed in decline. Acreage is being clear cut like crazy in Central/South America. No doubt.
2. Integral ecosystem thing. We'll all on the planet together. We're integrated by our very presense.
3. Developing Countries - why not shoulder own burden. (a) they are sovereign countries. That's why. (b) It's their land, like it or not. If you don't like it, then you'd better provide some kind of attractive alternative, and that costs money. I'd use the UN -- that might keep them busy and not bug US so much. Maybe a "Trees for Food" program, administered by Kofi's son.
4. What can I do. Write papers like this and blog the internet while wearing pajamas. Buy Mahogany. Live in a log cabin. Burn all trash. Oh wait, that's not what she wanted...how bad do you need this class???

#4 - amended. Write shorter reports and use recycled paper. Or recycled reports.

LOVE the idea of a (HS) School Bias Ping List and perhaps a weekly thread. My best wishes are with you because the fact is, you have an environment of less free speech than I did while in school. But atleast you have your eyes opened enough to see that there is bias. Take care, do graduate, and ask your teach if you can answer in all-caps too! ;) Brave student BUMP

BTW, the text book we had was right from the ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT environmental law library. Everything from high prices, regulations, taxes to out right banning anything that was deemed bad. Speaking of the rain forest depletion, there was a satellite sent to observe the deforestation of ten years. Ive seen it and it is pretty disheartening. The reason for depletion is for the economy of Brazil to export the lumber, farm cattle and to build an infrastructure - all things a nation needs to do. Nothing like a country who has nothing but a vast tract of unusable land dictated from a FORRIGN power. Brazil has issues with that and so does the USA.

In all seriousness - this is right: the currency markets in S. America have been in the tank for a couple of decades. That could be reason #1, and you could probably use this as a direction for the report without sacrificing too many conservative principles. Argue that steady monetary policies - particularly from the World Bank and IMF could lead to better economic conditions for the population and therefore less need for deforestation.
Maybe?
