Chevy Chase's potty-mouthed Bush-bashing at Kennedy Center

Even Hollywood liberals were left reeling after Chevy Chase's potty-mouthed Bush-bashing Tuesday night at the Kennedy Center, where the actor hosted an awards ceremony staged by People for the American Way.

The WASHINGTON POST on Thursday claims Chase unleashed a rant against President Bush that stunned the crowd.

He deployed the four-letter word that got Vice President Dick Cheney in hot water, using it as a noun. Chase called the prez a "dumb (expletive)." He also used it as an adjective, assuring the audience, "I'm no (expletive) clown either. ... This guy started a jihad."

Chase also said: "This guy in office is an uneducated, real lying schmuck ... and we still couldn't beat him with a bore like Kerry."

People for the American Way distanced itself Wednesday from the actor's rant.

Founder Norman Lear tells the paper: "I thought it was utterly untoward, obviously unexpected and unscripted and all that stuff. And, uh _ it was Chevy Chase. He'll live with it, I won't."

Developing...

Sen. Tom Daschle, the former minority leader, looked taken aback when he went on directly after Chase. His opening line: "I've had to follow a lot of speakers, but _ " The movie star didn't return for a curtain call or to savor dessert at the reception after the event. We were told he hurt his back and needed to call it a night by 9. Chase's PR rep told us Wednesday she was unable to reach him. Meanwhile, the other host of the evening, the newly blond Cynthia Nixon, told us she had a more gracious message for Bush: "Don't just listen to people who are telling you yes, listen to the people who are telling you no!"

Was he the guy in those old movies with the kids and the wife in Vegas?

many people will take the opportunity to bash Chevy on this thread stating they never found him funny.

I'll bash him for this.

I found him funny on SNL, circa 1975.
Only movie I saw was one of the Vacation series, rather bland.

Yes, he was the father in the National Lampoon movies. When the work got sparse he fell back and made a Vegas version.

"I've never ever found the guy to be funny outside of his collaborative efforts."

Agreed. The first "National Lampoon Vacation" movie IS a classic. But then there were very, very good writers on that film...the ones that followed s&cked, IMHO.

Other than that, I've never known what all the hub-bub was about over this guy. **Scratches Head, Walks Away**

I hope he, like Whoopie, loses his Slim Fast deal. He's got to be packin' on the pounds by now; all has-beens do, LOL!

I always thought Chevy Chase was the straight man.

I like Chevy is those movies and a couple more ("Caddyshack", "Foul Play"). He's not a great actor and I'm not defending him, but I won't let that get in the way of my entertainment.

Checy has been out of touch for a very long time but a good word should be put in for 1988's Funny Farm. A very good and under-appreicated comedy.

Bet $100 that the "uneducated" Bush has more formal education than Chase.

He once did a movie full of midgets. I think the name was something like Under the rainbow. I think it also had carrie fisher, if I remember correctly. I saw that as a kid and I laughed my butt off. I never see that one on tv or cable. I guess it is not politically correct.

George Burns is a funny straight man. If he was still alive he could teach Chevy a few billions lessons.

He must have heard about the massive career boost Whoopie Goldberg got from her monologue.

Yes, that's it! National Lampoons.

Old movies.

Kinda gave me the creeps a bit. But most things with late 70's and 1980's fashion make me ill. I think I'm allergic to busy patterns or something. *L*

Which Vacation movie? "European Vacation" was terrible. "Vegas Vacation" was ho-hum. The orginal "Vacation" and "Christmas Vacation" were the best.

Ah jeez, I forgot about that. An honest to goodness Chevy Chase movie that he was the main attraction which was actually funny.

I remember the movie but I fail to remember his role. Typical Chevy Chase.

The bitterness of these lefties over being made such HUGE LOSERS in this election is delightful to see.
Let them stew in their own anger and resentment over Bush's victory.

I recommend Chevy set his alarm an hour earlier each day so he can suffer longer.

I never cared for Chase back when he was "Hot" (circa 1979).

What a looser...
