Holiday Tree Removed From Federal Courthouse (Video Coverage!)
First Coast News ^ | December 14, 2004

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A Christmas tree that decorated the lobby in new federal courthouse downtown has been removed.

Late last week the Government Services Administration, the agency that maintains the building, acted on direction from the Chief Judge to pull the tree. A lighted snowman, reindeer and sleigh has replaced the tree.

A spokesperson for the GSA could not give specifics on why the tree was taken down. Gary Mote who handles Public Affairs from the Southeast Sunbelt Region says the decision was to "...make sure no one is offended."

The artificial tree that was decorated with non religious ornaments has been placed in storage.

Good, it insults me too. It should be replaced with a nativity scene.

Well, speaking for all people of the north, I spit upon southerners by displaying snowmen. Snowmen are my secret way of being bigoted. Every time you see anything having to do with snowmen, know that it is I who am responsible, and that I am sending signals to my snowmen brethren to also join in my bigotry of everyone who has never written their names in the snow with their urine.

By the way, anyone who dares to display a palm tree will be retaliated against by snowmen everywhere.

You better watch out.

Hmmmm. Are they allowed to say 'Merry'. That might offend the legions of people on Prozac!

" HOHOHO!! "

Please do not use such terminology on this American bulletin board.

"HOHOHO" is associated with one Santa Claus, a known fellon and fugitive and is therefore outlawed by the PC, ACLU approved American Justice system.

Happy Kwanza & may the force be with you.

I think this is the judge......

He was appointed to the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court in 1983, having served as a Duval County Court Judge from 1977 to 1983 and as an Assistant State Attorney from 1973 to 1977. Chief Judge Moran has served as an adult drug court judge since the inception of the Adult Drug Court in October of 1994. He founded the Juvenile Drug Court and was its presiding judge from February of 1997 until January of 1999. He chairs the Florida Drug Courts Steering Committee, is on the Board of Directors and served as President for the National Metropolitan Courts, and as of July 1, 2000, became the President of the Conference of Circuit Judges for the State of Florida.

Judge Moran is married and has four (4) children. He has a Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Florida Law School and a Bachelors degree from the University of Kentucky.

More info. Looking at the website, I suspect, sitting out here in Utah, far away from Florida, that Justice Schlesinger may be the culprit.

Just sent them an E-mail they must be getting quite a few, look like an automated response.

We appreciate your comment. GSA is the landlord for the Courthouse and is responsible for the day to day operation. Being a service driven agency, we received a request from our client who occupies the building to remove the Christmas tree. We honored that request by removing the tree.

That's a state court...this is in the Federal court building...Moran wouldn't have jurisdiction there.

He's in Tampa...But he's worth complaining to, cause he's supposedly in charge of this bunch...The way the news story is written, I suspect it's the senior Jacksonville judge, but we don't know for sure.

GSA builds and buys and maintains the buildings. The government agencies rent them from GSA. This way you can have agencies that tend to hate each other working in the same building without getting some of the squabbles that happen, say when the FS uses BLM facilities...

They'll say it was "a fire hazard" or was overloaded with ornaments, or "an attractive nuisance" that small children were approaching too eagerly to touch, or somesuch jive nonsense.
