TODAY'S HIGHLIGHT: GWB awarded the nation's highest civilian honor -- the Presidential Medal of Freedom -- Ambassador L. Paul "Jerry" Bremer, former CIA Director George Tenet, and retired U.S. Army General Tommy Franks.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: General Tommy Franks was raised in Midland, Texas -- nothing wrong with that. (Laughter.) I didn't know him then, but Laura and he went to the same high school. In those days, some people in Midland wondered about Tommy's future. It sounds familiar. (Laughter.) At a recent high school reunion, Tommy's old principal told the General, "You weren't the brightest bulb in the socket," to which the General replied, "Ain't this a great country?" (Laughter.) -- President George W. Bush, Presidential Medal of Freedom Ceremony, 12/14/04

These are examples of the President's great graciousness. George Tenet is, IMHO, not worthy of such an award but I will go with the President's judgement. He was let down by Tenet.....but that doesn't mean this President will put a person on a permanent enemies list after such a disappointment.
Graciousness is what it means to me.

Y'know, I kinda feel sorry for George Tenet. I think he's gotten hit with blame from every side for every problem. He certainly holds some amount of responsibility for some things but it seems like he's gotten considerably more criticism than he deserves. Anyway, that's just my opinion...

Do you have any snow? I am hoping for a white Christmas this year....snow anyway. It hasn't snowed in 3 years. :(

Last, but not least, the First Lady attended a performance by the youth group 'NDI-NM SWAT Team' at the Coming Up Taller Awards ceremony in Washington today.

No, I chose my name from a poem that was written for the Revolutionary period. If you click on my forum name the poem is on my about page. I believe the poem was based on a true story but am not sure about the name, it may be fictional.

I had my 2-year old granddaughter here today to help me decorate the cut tree in the family room. You can be a lot more enthusiastic when you have a little one who says "Oooo, Santa!" or "Oooo, kitties!" every time you open an ornament box. We also sang Jingle Bells while shaking real jingle bells. Great fun!

Hi, Emily. I waited until all photos were up before starting my responses to others. I'm fine -- couldn't be better given the gorgeous weather we're having here in Southern California. Thanks for asking.

I wish the media had published more photos of the first couple entering the room. But this one is quite nice.

Thanks. I'm just filling in tonight. I really enjoy the somewhat more informal feel to the weekend threads.

I cannot remember ever having a white Christmas (snow on Christmas day) I can remember snow before Christmas and vividly heavy snow on Boxing Day but never on Christmas Day.

Wonder if/when this ceremony will be rebroadcast so we can all see the entire ceremony?
