A day in the life of President Bush (photos) 12/14/04

TODAY'S HIGHLIGHT: GWB awarded the nation's highest civilian honor -- the Presidential Medal of Freedom -- Ambassador L. Paul "Jerry" Bremer, former CIA Director George Tenet, and retired U.S. Army General Tommy Franks.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: General Tommy Franks was raised in Midland, Texas -- nothing wrong with that. (Laughter.) I didn't know him then, but Laura and he went to the same high school. In those days, some people in Midland wondered about Tommy's future. It sounds familiar. (Laughter.) At a recent high school reunion, Tommy's old principal told the General, "You weren't the brightest bulb in the socket," to which the General replied, "Ain't this a great country?" (Laughter.) -- President George W. Bush, Presidential Medal of Freedom Ceremony, 12/14/04

One last comment before I get back to work.

When I went to see President Bush in 2002 with WVNan (and got my kiss!), one of the things I noticed was how nice he smelled!

It's funny, because I wasn't expecting that at all. Nice, clean smell............nice. :o)

American Soldier is a good book in the sense that General Franks has had a fascinating and interesting life. Lots of adventures. In the right place at the right time.

It is NOT a good book in the sense that cursing is second nature to him. And I doubt the book had everything in it that he is capable of saying. Probably doesn't bother General Franks to be around all the cursing but it bothered me to read it. It is hard to skip it when there is so much of it.

***Yes, isn't it tough for us. For me it was shorts and
short sleeves today. I have never seen snow in my life.***

Ahh, snow has its moments! My little granddaughter was here from Florida one year and she had never seen snow, either. I prayed for snow for Christmas, and on Christmas Eve I called her to come look out the family room door. It was one of those rare snows where you can stick your hand out and get a beautiful big snow flake on it in all its glory. They truly are beautiful. She was enchanted.

So she went out with a small shovel to clean the driveway--all 1/2 inch of light, powdery snow. Man, did she have a story to share when she got back to Florida.

I don't know .. I just bought it because I was sure it had great insights into what was really going on in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Didn't you direct a musical concert this week? How did it go? I hope well. Next week are the kids' music concerts and I can hardly wait! It will be daughter's first band concert. She's not nervous, at least not yet.

I was so disgusted I quit watching the news too. I got to where I couldn't stand the sound of his whiny voice. But I don't think we plotted to get our point home by writing on paper money, thinking that wouild convince people, did we?

He was slime, still is, as is his "wife" and neither of them are worthy to hold any sort of position of power. It's scary, the influence they've had on America, especially young people

Just my humble opinion, but I believe that it's a "SLAM DUNK" that Tenet didn't deserve this honor nearly to the extent that Bremer and Franks did. Sometimes I wonder if Dubyuh simply thinks we ain't paying attention...

Thanks!

I made a bumper sticker (at MAKESTICKERS.COM) with that as well:

My teenage son thinks it's silly, and my liberal wife hates it. But a few good men have said thanks. About time, I think. It's an ill wind that blows no good.

Wonderful first photo. I don't recall seeing any other quite like it.

Thanks for pulling triple duty this week.

You can be a lot more enthusiastic when you have a little one who says "Oooo, Santa!" or "Oooo, kitties!" every time you open an ornament box. We also sang Jingle Bells while shaking real jingle bells. Great fun!

I'm going to have to miss out on this, this year. Lucky You, Miss Marple! :>))

Bremer reminds me a tiny bit of Bobby Kennedy in this photo.

Good comments at #73. Especially, "I think there is a great deal we do not know ... and we have to keep in mind that what we do know has been filtered through the MSM for the most part."

I've read on an Italian newspaper that Mr and Mrs Bush have been photographed by Annie Leibovitz (for Vogue) in the Oval Office. This photo would be pretty strange, the Italian journalist said it is in a "Clinton way": the First Lady is setting on the table and Mr. President doesn't wear his jacket.

Do you have any more informations about that? Thanks

"But if you look closely at Dubya now, observe his features and his mother's, he really resembles Barbara more and more."

Oh, I think you're absolutely right. It was just that one shot in the limo that struck me.

**For those of you who didn't get to see it, it's on again a couple of times this week on HGTV - - Christmas at the White House. They showed how they decorated and then went through some of the rooms when they were complete. Gorgeous! I'll bet it's breathtaking in person.**

Sounds that is was a lovely program shame we cannot get HGTV in the UK.

**Remarkable for two 58-year-old to still be so "frisky" with each other.**

I think it is lovely to see how fresh and vibrant their relationship still is.

There is something special and wonderful about seeing a couple who are obviously still very much in love after so many years and both the President and the Vice President show regularly by the way they talk about and look at their wives how much they still love and dare I say still desire their wives.

IMHO both your President and Vice President and their wives are wonderful examples of how marriage and family life should be and moreover show that even after nearly 30 and 40 years it can still be fresh, enjoyable fun and again dare I say passionate.
