NEW YORK Even as a new Gallup poll shows that the public values values less than November exit polls suggested, another survey from the same outfit released today showed a historic surge in Republican party affiliation.
In Gallup's latest poll this month, those identifying themselves as Republicans jumped to 37% of the public, with Democrats now clearly trailing with 32%.
Democrats have long held more party members than Republicans. During the Clinton years, the bulge was about 5% to 6%. As recently as late-October of this year the Democratic edge was 37% to 34%.
Gallup noted today: Post-election shifts in partisanship after presidential elections or midterm congressional elections are not routine, but are also not uncommon.
Another Gallup poll also released today showed that, contrary to many press reports, values ranked well behind the war in Iraq, terrorism and the economy as a prime concern of Americans.
Clinton. Bulge. The possibilities are endless.
Freudian slip?
Freudian slip?
Does certain Monica work for E&P now?
I would wager that greater plurality consider themselves conservative (over liberal) than those that consider themselves republican (over democrat) as well.
Post-election shifts in partisanship after presidential elections or midterm congressional elections are not routine, but are also not uncommon.
"Not routine, but also not uncommon"? What the heck does this mean? Where's James Taranto of the WSJ Ohline "Best of the Web" when you need him?
The Clinton Years huh.....looks like some people finally sobered up.
Clinton. Bulge. The possibilities are endless.
Well, I for one am glad the newspapers are going limp. I am sick and tired of the way they spewing away with lies. They all leave a bad taste in my mouth.
Please refrain from posting that pic so close to dinner time.....thanks.

Right there. That's where I lost consciousness, laughing. :)
One problem we will continue to have as conservatives is that the countries major newspapers are still based in urban cores and their readership is still by and large liberal. Their readership might continue to decline as the country shifts to the right, but the major newspapers are still going to cater to urban liberals.
That is just about right....lol
I value the values that were valuable to the voters who validated the valiant victor who vanquished that very same varmint (Kerry) who obviously had no set values which he could not vacate.
Seriously, all these post election polls about "values" are meaningless without identifying what specific "value" one is talking about in the first place.
For example, a Democrat might think good values is getting arrested in the cause of promoting abortion rights, or hiding an illegal alien who has broken the laws here in America.
To me a candidate with values (besides the required honesty, integrity, love of fellow man, etc.) is one who is strongly dedicated to their children: or one who tries his or her best to promote nuclear families through legislation or the bully pulpit; one who has a basic understanding of right and wrong based on Judeo-Christian principals; and one who is not afraid to put his or her own job (or money) on the line in order to protect life, liberty, and freedom to practice a valid religion.
In reality, sometimes it's tough to be specific when someone asks what you mean by values.
Not to worry....the readerships in major cities also cannot read. (I know that's a generalization, but much truth in it.)
I'm not worried. I just expect the major newspapers to continue pumping out the same propaganda and news with a leftward spin on it. We will continue developing an alternative media that will get bigger and more respectable, but I don't think the market is there for more than a handful of conservative newspapers. If the cities were populated by conservatives then things would be different.
What he does not tell you is that this is the first time since the 1928 presidential election of Republican Herbert Hoover (in a blowout) that Republicans have outnumbered Democrats. This is big news historically.
Looks like Rove (and I :-) were correct, this 2004 presidential election might have been the political re-alignment that comes every 70 or so years...

This IS big news, and I appreciate the additional information.
