China to crown first "Miss Plastic Surgery"
BEIJING (Reuters) - China will soon host the finals of the country's first beauty contest in which every contestant has gone under the knife.
Twenty "man-made" beauties will parade their surgical nips and tucks next Saturday in the hope of taking home the country's first Miss Artificial Beauty crown.
The contest is the latest addition to China's beauty pageant scene after Miss World was held in the southern island of Hainan for two years in a row.
Beauty pageants were once considered reviled displays of western decadence but have become big business in Communist-ruled China following more than two decades of economic reforms.
"I wanted to convey a message to society -- that the pursuit of beauty is ageless," said 62-year-old Liu Yulan, the oldest contestant who turned to plastic surgery to smooth facial wrinkles and fill out her drawn cheeks.
Another contestant, who did not make the Miss Artificial Beauty finals, spent 300,000 yuan in her quest for the perfect body, according to a Chinese Web site.
Organisers dreamed up the pageant after one woman who splashed 110,000 yuan on improving her looks attempted to sue them for banning her from the finals of a traditional beauty contest in May.
Plastic surgery clinics offering everything from liposuction to eye re-modelling have mushroomed in major cities in China in recent years.
If athletes should/should not keep records achieved with drugs and supplements, what about beauty queens?
I'd like pictures of these oriental beauties.
Don't we have enough beauty contests?
Before & After pictures required....
What about Mr. and Ms. Botox pagent starring Teresa Heinz and her poodle boy Johnny.
How appetizing....it makes me think of Tupper ware.
I used to be you would buy a woman a diamond ring. Now you have to buy her new hips, posterior, breasts, lips, face, liposuction, and excess skin removal.....and a diamond ring.
In China! Why bother, I thought the females already had an over abundance of males to choose from.
China also has a "Miss Home Online Shopping." I kid you not. They never found performances, pageants or agitprop they didn't like, complete with canned applause and neurotic coverage from the state-run media. Truly tedious. I would know- I just got back from teaching in China for a year.
How appetizing....it makes me think of Tupper ware.

I wonder if Michael Jackson will be a participant?
Perhaps so they can appeal to foreigners and be able to leave the country so they can raise a family of more than just 1!
Sibling in China is a word used in prison....
I know she ain't Chinese but I wonder if she still stands a chance...
That pic is proof positive that PS doesn't work. He still looks like a guy......; ~ 0
Perhaps Burton Cummings had the right idea in his lyrics when singing for "The Guess Who"?
Actually that is socialite Jocelyn Wildenstein who used to be a fairly attractive (honest to goodness) female in her younger days before she got addicted (quite literally) to plastic surgery.
