An unlikely assortment of retired neighbors and young fans gathered Thurdsay outside the home of Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott, leaving flowers, a Confederate flag and a poster declaring him "the people's rock star". The 38-year-old guitarist, who was fatally shot during a performance Wednesday night in Columbus, Ohio, was remembered in this semi-rural enclave as an approachable star who never strayed far from his roots in blue-collar Arlington. "He was a hick with an attitude, and I say that respectfully," said neighbor Jim Evans, 63, a retired computer executive who said he frequently walked dogs with Abbott. "We'd talk conservative politics. He was a big, big supporter of George Bush." ...

I always used to look for these guys at the hockey games. They were very visible in the Dallas area.
He supposedly smiled at the guy when he jumped on stage before he started shooting. There are crazy people in this world.
R.I.P.
Just a horrible horrible thing.
RIP DARREL !!!
The Dalworthington Gardens cops must be raking it in with the tickets they are writing to the people who don't know better than to drive into Dalworthington Gardens.
"Props" to the cop who ran in there, sans back up, like they used to way back when, to do his job.
And WHAT a job. This poor guy goes from munching a doughnut and contemplating his sins to face to face with an armed killer hostage taker!
Capped him with a shotgun and the hostage is OK.
Way to go Officer!
Kinda puts the boot-in-the-a$$ of all the wussified Lawrence Welk-types on FR..who were semi-celebrating his death as if he were public-enemy #1...seems like some here can't look beyond long hair, rock & roll, and an attitude...as a long-haired rock musician with an attitude...I know!
BIG difference between Dimebag Darrell, and say Puff-Daddy or Tupac...but not to certain panties-in-a-wad types here...the only thing that would have made them happier would have been a Cop shooting Darrell.
Woah! LOL I was just thinking about that. I lived about a mile from there up the road a bit. Never speed in Dalworthington Gardens. I know that cop Jeff Woolsey from some where. It's making me crazy trying to remember how I know him. I think it was a church thing.
Did you know that they have their own SWAT team now? Everyone on the force is a member and each has their own H&K MP5.
SWAT was called out to Pappy Elkins Lake last summer when a guy in a raft didn't want to come in 'cause he hadn't finished his beer.
We're coming home to the area for Christmas. I hope I can stop by and put some flowers out. I wonder if they would have taken them down by then? I would really like to pay my respects.
Blessings.
NONE of these people did anything to deserve their death sentence...NONE had the benefits of hearings/judge/jury/representation/'rights'. NONE of them did anything to the perp to justify what he did to them.
I haven't checked yet but DO wonder how many of these death-chanters, ALSO found satisfaction and justification in judging those who burned alive at the Great White concert.
And, I also wonder WHY those self-righteous ones, CANNOT or WILL NOT see that THEY CAN ALSO be judged by their SAME standards.
Damn straight. Metal fans are a BIG part of the future of freedom in this country.
We're the guys who take no sh*t from self-important "authority" figures like ivory-tower socialists. Take a look at the "Metal Pantheon". Uncle Ted. Gene Simmons. Pantera. Slayer. Metallica. America-loving patriots, every last one of 'em.
And a lot of us love country and bluegrass, too. Hardlt surprising, when you think about it.
We think for ourselves and know America for what it is - the best damned country on Earth, we fly the flag with pride, and we gladly put a boot in the a$$ of anyone who says otherwise.
It's a shame the Lawrence Welk and Geritol Generation refuses to see that.
But as to your point, I'm not a metal fan myself but more power to those who are, but there is an element here at FR that still acts like my parents did in '64 when the Beatles hit in America (in other words, YOU'RE GOING TO GO TO HELL FOR LISTENING TO THOSE JERKY, LONG-HAIRED MAGGOT INFESTED FOREIGNERS) when it comes to any genre of rock music. For example, when the occasional thread pops up about the Beatles, they basically talk of John Lennon ... who, ironically, was killed on Dec. 8 as was Mr. Abbott ... in the same terms as Vladimir Lenin. Which is silly, and IMHO it's a waste of time to refight THAT particular battle of the '60s, when there are so many other battles of the '60s aside from the music that are much more pressing.
