Scientists debate blending of human, animal forms
MSNBC ^ | Jay777

In Minnesota, pigs are being born with human blood in their veins.

In Nevada, there are sheep whose livers and hearts are largely human.

In California, mice peer from their cages with human brain cells firing inside their skulls.

These are not outcasts from "The Island of Dr. Moreau," the 1896 novel by H.G. Wells in which a rogue doctor develops creatures that are part animal and part human. They are real creations of real scientists, stretching the boundaries of stem cell research.

Better than the usual case in California: Humans with the brain cells of 'rats.

I don't know where this is going but I can say that most people could be improved with a little animal input...

...not so confident about genetic infusion of humans into animals.

Each one after his own kind.....it works. Anything else is just experimenting.

Biologists call these hybrid animals chimeras, after the mythical Greek creature with a lion's head, a goat's body and a serpent's tail.

Conservatives call them Kerry clones, after a ridiculous french creature with a horse's head, a serpent's tounge, the body of an aged hippy windsurfer, and the mind of a flip-flop.

Chimeras are allowing scientists to watch, for the first time, how nascent human cells and organs mature and interact...

Wait a minute...the chimeras are "allowing" the scientist? Just who is in charge here?

What Do You Get When You Cross...

An Eskimo with a pig? A polar boar.

A ham with a karate expert? Pork chops.

During one recent meeting, scientists disagreed on such basic issues as whether it would be unethical for a human embryo to begin its development in an animal's womb....

Who's your mommy?

I alway thought humans should have a tail. They are so expressive.

In DC, there's slugs that speak.

My step sister was going to be a marine biologist. She ended up changing her major to be an archiologist.
