NEW YORK — If you want to be fashionable this winter, just go over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s house. And then raid her closet.

Styles that Granny has been wearing for years — beaded cardigans, big brooches, pleated skirts, fur-lined snow boots over pants and gold brocaded clothing — are anything but dated this season.

Of course, those of us who grew up in the later 70's will remember these same fashions and some of them - the brooches and some of the shoe styles in particular - were retro 40's styles then. A handbag I crocheted won first prize (late 70's). I was in my teens then and remember some of these quite fondly. I guess some of the 20 something models of those 'new' styles could be grannies now... Yikes, that makes me feel a little dated...

I read both articles. Was the second one condescending or what?

Not at all -- it's rather slimming on you.

I went and looked at the pictures on foxnews.com from their article, and that stuff doesn't look very "granny" to me! My grandmas never wore skin tight tailored pants, boots that look like they probably cost several hundred dollars, and brooches worn not at the neck but on the side of a cashmere sweater!

But the question still remains. When will the hijab and the Burka become fashionable, next year?

Man! Barbie hasn't aged well at all, LOL!

I love all of those types of fashions. Since I've not updated my wardrobe in 25 years, I'm back in style again! Who knew?

Uh, I thought it was your turn to decide this year's trend. Are you tellin' me this whole 'granny gear' wasn't your idea?

I don't remember Grandma wearing this, but I used to wear stuff like this from Aardvark's Odd Ark (L.A. vintage) when I was 16! Sans tiara.
