At Least 3 Dead, 4 Wounded In Nightclub Shooting Witnesses: Alleged Gunman Went Onto Stage, Fired Shots

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- At least three people died and four others were wounded after a shooting at a Columbus nightclub on Wednesday night, NBC 4 reported.
The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Road.
Two members of the heavy metal band Damageplan were reportedly shot and killed, including Dimebag Darrell, formerly with the band Pantera, NBC 4's David Wayne reported. The alleged gunman also died at the scene, Wayne reported.
Shortly after the band began playing its first song, a man reportedly ran onto the stage and began shooting, according to a witness who identified himself as Sean. Some members of the audience reportedly thought the man running onto the stage with a gun was part of the band's act, NBC 4's Erin Tate reported.
Witnesses said that several shots were fired at the band. Witnesses said that a bouncer at the club tackled the alleged gunman before that person was shot and killed. It was unclear as to whom shot the alleged gunman.
Alrosa Villa is a popular north Columbus nightspot for young adults, featuring rock and heavy metal bands, NBC 4 reported.
According to the band's Web site, Damageplan was touring nationally. It performed in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday night and had a concert scheduled in Flint, Mich., on Thursday.
Damageplan featured former Pantera artists Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The pair were joined by vocalist Patrick Lachman and bassist Bobzilla, according to their Web site.

That's my suspicion. Or maybe a mentally unstable Charles Manson-style "fan" who actually started to believe he's the Angel of Death or something.
Brrrr... that ALSO happened on December 8, 1984. It chilled me at the time that it was the anniversary of John Lennon's murder (plus the weird coincidence that Hanoi Rocks was supposed to be playing a club in San Antonio that very night, if they hadn't cancelled that tour for whatever reason, Razzle wouldn't have been with Vince Neil in L.A. that terrible night. The S.A. HR gig was even still listed in that morning's paper.)
I saw Pantera in S.A. back in March 1985 when they were playing cover tunes, allowed to play only two of their original songs per set. Darrell went by "Diamond" Darrell Abbott then (the "Dimebag" nickname didn't show up for a couple more years), but he was already showing promise as a hot axeman. Their sound was much more Def Leppard-ish back then, Terry Glaze (later of Lord Tracy) was the lead singer in those days of their first self-released albums. They were all so young....
This is a terrible, shocking horror, I'm sitting here as stunned and gut-punched as the night of the Great White/Station fire last year.

P.S.: Someone give the cop a medal, there could have been many more killed without his quick action.
They had metal detectors and body frisking procedures at all entry gates.
Jagger and his security entourage were anticipating a similar attack which killed John Lennon. Rock stars have to think about security like Federally elected officials, they just don't have the resources and benefits of the Secret Service or the FBI.
Hi Meek, I believe that the lead guitarist of this band who was shot and killed last night and his brother originally hailed from Texas. Maybe there is a Texas ping list for prayers for these musicians? Also their Dad is a semi-famous CW music writer and producer.

Alcohol has very little to do with killings except in domestic affairs.

"Dime Bag" is kind of a nom de plume and it sounds bad which is still good, I think?
The Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul are the Texas brothers from Dallas. They used to (when there was an NHL) have season tickets to the Stars. I haven't been in years, but I always used to look over and see Vinnie.
Although I am more a Willie Nelson kind of guy, Dimebag was a giant, arguably one the greatest ever. This is probably the darkest day ever in the world of heavy metal.
You forgot about the infamous Pantera concert in Dallas, were the fans tore up the floor board of Reunion Arena(I think) and start throwing the debris around and eventually starting bond fires. :P
I'm sorry for the loss of someone who sounds like a good regular kind of guy and a talented musician. Prayers for his comfort and peace in the Hands of God. There's a band in Heaven he just might be sitting in with tonight.
