At Least 3 Dead, 4 Wounded In Nightclub Shooting Witnesses: Alleged Gunman Went Onto Stage, Fired Shots

POSTED: 10:32 pm EST December 8, 2004 UPDATED: 11:36 pm EST December 8, 2004

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- At least three people died and four others were wounded after a shooting at a Columbus nightclub on Wednesday night, NBC 4 reported.

The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Road.

Two members of the heavy metal band Damageplan were reportedly shot and killed, including Dimebag Darrell, formerly with the band Pantera, NBC 4's David Wayne reported. The alleged gunman also died at the scene, Wayne reported.

Shortly after the band began playing its first song, a man reportedly ran onto the stage and began shooting, according to a witness who identified himself as Sean. Some members of the audience reportedly thought the man running onto the stage with a gun was part of the band's act, NBC 4's Erin Tate reported.

Witnesses said that several shots were fired at the band. Witnesses said that a bouncer at the club tackled the alleged gunman before that person was shot and killed. It was unclear as to whom shot the alleged gunman.

Alrosa Villa is a popular north Columbus nightspot for young adults, featuring rock and heavy metal bands, NBC 4 reported.

According to the band's Web site, Damageplan was touring nationally. It performed in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday night and had a concert scheduled in Flint, Mich., on Thursday.

Damageplan featured former Pantera artists Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The pair were joined by vocalist Patrick Lachman and bassist Bobzilla, according to their Web site.

Congratulations on the dumbest post of the night.

And you had to defeat churchillbluff to win that honor, which is no small feat.

From the Fox story.... The man in the jersey climbed onto the stage, started yelling and shot the guitarist five or six times at close range, Couch said. Couch said the gunman also shot a bouncer who pulled him off the musician.

Apples and oranges. cRap a-holes kill each other. Metal and rock musicians don't. When was the last time you heard of some East coast-West coast pissing contest leading to some rocker's entourage killing a rival musician? It doesn't happen, whereas it's part of sh**-slop/cRap culture.

Yeah, metal lyrics may be dark, evil and violent at times, but the entire cRap culture is violent and evil. It may turn out that there was some sinister cause to this shooting, but at first glance, it looks like this was done by some (probably) drugged up assclown who snapped.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

Weird! Why would someone choose a stage to commit murder? If he had something against the guitarist, why not do it outside in parking lot where he has better chance of escaping? Just doesn't make sense...it never does. Sad.

I agree. The stuff like that in rap is like "musical" gang wars. This is going to be a nut, not a rivalry.

Quite an account.

I am struck by the number of other witnesses, not just this guy, who "thought it was part of the show". I've been to a lot of rock shows, and never seen skits like this as part of the show... and yet people really tend to deny the gravity of critical situations. It's a really counterproductive trait we have.

It was like the Great White fire, originally many thought the fire was a part of the act.

Why? What good did that law do? That didn't stop it because the gun didn't kill those people, that man killed them. It sounds like someone came in there with the intent of killing them. Maybe it will turn out to be a drug deal or something else that has nothing to do with the night club.

I read it was some psycho fan that blamed Dime for the breakup of Pantera. Guess the fact that Vinnie and Dime split Pantera because Phil is a useless heroin addict mattered little to this guy.

Any word on who the 2nd band member is?

I seem to remember that Marilyn Manson did a stage "killing" where a roadie came up on stage and "shot" at him as part of the show. This was several years ago and I don't think he did it long after that.

Radio called it a revenge killing. If not inside it would have happened outside as the band loaded out.

Can we get a prayer bump for this tragedy (five dead in a homicide)?

OK - Well, Marilyn Manson is capable of a lot of stuff you'll never see anywhere else.

And I for one am thankful for that! That person is horrifying to me.
