NEW YORK — A decision by Wells College (search), which has been all-women since 1868, to begin admitting male students in order to boost enrollment has riled female students.
Many students are threatening to leave the upstate New York college, but two have moved beyond threats and filed a lawsuit that says the decision to enroll men constitutes a breach of contract and fraud.

He "assumed" that they were liberals - an unfounded assumption, i.e. no evidence.
Then he threw the rock of "hypocrisy" at them, based on his unfounded assumption.

Two things: First, I never realized that Curves was a religiously affilliated organization, I've not seen that in their advertising. Second, if I started a men's only gym, where successful businessmen were the only ones allowed in, there'd be a cease and desist order nailed to my front door in a week. Some feminazis would find an ACLU'er to charge that I was trying to keep women out of the loop, and discriminate against them by perpetuating an "old boys network".
I don't really have any problem with Curves being women only, but it seems hard to justify under current interpretations of the law. I did do a bit of research since my original post, and found that Wisconsin specifically passed a bill allowing same-sex health club facilities, wonder if it would pass muster with a state's ERA.
Aren't there still all male country clubs?

Name a publicly funded all female college. Wells is private.
First, is Wells College liberal, center, or conservative.
Second, would you REALLY want to go to college with a bunch of liberal feminists?

I have no problem with that school being women only, but then go back to the old rules with the Citadel.

I have read the article... My post was in response to comment # 33 where ChewedGum said "I never understood why a girl would want to break into an all male college... Although a single man infiltrating an all girl college...this one I understand!"
Slightly OT, I guess... but just goin' with the flow.
Those aren't bad points but the b*tchin' that was done about men-only institutions leaves me without much sympathy.
I heard that on the radio...not "convenient" to have men around, very "distracting."
Acually, I think it's fine if they want an all-women's school; just keep the playing field level.

Someone must remember the weeping and gnashing of teeth that took place at Mills College in Oakland, another formerly all-women's school. It too, had declining enrollment and decided to admit men. The picture in the paper of the women crying and bawling was priceless. You would think they were hearing news of a death. Anyway, this was 15 or 20 years ago, I think.
