NEW YORK A decision by Wells College (search), which has been all-women since 1868, to begin admitting male students in order to boost enrollment has riled female students.
Many students are threatening to leave the upstate New York college, but two have moved beyond threats and filed a lawsuit that says the decision to enroll men constitutes a breach of contract and fraud.

Name one "single-gender" college for males.Hampden-Sydney
I know... Hampden-what? So maybe it's not a major university... But it's there... and it's all-male.

What about the hypocrisy of those who defend single sex male colleges, but won't do the same for single sex female colleges? This is worth repeating.

Yes, we did. The sights to a 20 year old were just too much to pass up!

Because there aren't any single sex male colleges left. None. I listed them on a thread a few weeks ago on this topic. I believe they are Morehouse College, Hampden-Sydney College, Wabash College . Also Deep Springs College (2 year).

I'm just pointing out that these girls at these schools are, in all probability, liberal. First you make an unfounded assumption about the students and then you throw rocks because of your unfounded assumption.
Bet you're really good on a jury.

"Oh, I am afraid our life must seem very dull and quiet compared to yours.
We are but eight score young blondes and brunettes, all between sixteen and
nineteen and a half, cut off in this castle with no one to protect us! Oh, it is
a lonely life -- bathing, dressing, undressing, making exciting underwear....
We are just not used to handsome knights. Nay, nay, come, come, you may
lie here. Oh, but you are wounded!"

Also note in the article the admission of men will not start for four years until the current class of freshman has graduaetd..

I think Judson College in Alabama recently started allowing males, but they could not live on campus. IIRC...
I think colleges should be allowed to stay all male or all female if they choose, but looks like the owner of this college decided to make the change for economic reasons.

"I think waiting 2 years or so and letting the current students graduate before implementing a drastic change like this would make more sense."um...isn't that what they're doing
OK, I just saw that in the article. In the last article that was posted about this a few weeks ago they weren't planning to wait and that was the basis of the lawsuit and breach of contract charge. If the college is planning to wait until those already in the school graduate then I agree that while it may be a sad "end of an era" for those who wanted to apply to Wells as a single-sex college, I don't think there's any basis for a lawsuit.

First you make an unfounded assumption about the students and then you throw rocks because of your unfounded assumption. Referring to someone as a "liberal" now is the same as "throwing rocks" at them? Wow. I didn't know the term was as debased as that.

What about the hypocrisy of those who defend single sex male colleges, but won't do the same for single sex female colleges? Because by the time you get around to defending an all male college, they're forced by the courts to accept females. It's a fight that's lost almost as soon as it starts. Female colleges don't have to allow men.
