Sad News: David Brudnoy Very Ill
WBZ - Boston ^

Posted on 12/08/2004 1:34:49 PM PST by Conservomax

WBZ'S David Brudnoy is saying good-bye to his friends. After living with AIDS for years, David’s cancer, merckle cell carcinoma has spread to his liver and kidneys and his prognosis at Mass General Hospital is not good.

All too often in the news business, its not good news we have to report and this is one of those stories. WBZ's Gary LaPierre had an extended conversation today with a very prominent member of our family here at WBZ, Dr. David Brudnoy.

David Brudnoy asked to have this conversation so that he, a nationally prominent radio talk show host, could say farewell to you... his listening public, his family.

Simply put and to the point, David Brudnoy is looking death straight in the eye today and is saying to his family... his listeners, I’m ready. It was very apparent when I stepped into David’s room at the Mass General today that one of the giant survivors of this sometimes very unforgiving business is talking to his family that’s you... for the last time.

10-years ago I talked to David, a mere skeleton of a man, fighting back from death by full-blown AIDS. This tough guy won.

A little more than a year ago, a deathbed struggle ensues again for David Brudnoy, merkel-cell carcinoma. He launched another 15 round battle with a rare deadly disease and won... until now. David told us today, he's losing this one. I asked him how its different this time.

David "it's gone below the waist. It’s in the liver and kidneys."

While at times, struggling a bit for the breath to speak, David Brudnoy is always, the open book and I couldn't help by ask why, while standing at deaths door he wants to share it all.

David “You go through a couple of days of that… more pain… pointless. No end.”

Gary: “What you are saying to continue would be just to continue your being for a few more days?”

David: “With morphine and a little oxygen and food. I am not starving myself. I am not asking my doctors to do anything illegal. I wish I could but they won't. I will make it through. My head is completely excepting of this. I am absolutely ready.”

David Brudnoy, as only David could do it, gets the chance to say his final farewells to the world.

David: “I think we in the media often times want everybody else to be frank about themselves but want to be covert about ourselves. My life is truly an open book.”

Gary: “It always has been.”

David: “It has been but more so as I contend with these diseases.”

So tonight, he'll be heard in a bed-side interview with WBZ's Gary LaPierre in what will be his final farewell.

All of us here at WBZ have David Brudnoy in our thoughts and prayers today.

He cheated death 2 times already but doesn't look like a third reprieve is likely.

He will be missed.

Although I don't listen to talk radio and have never heard David Brudnoy, I have certainly heard of him. This is sad news indeed. MY prayers go out to him and his family.

The classiest radio presence I've ever heard. Erudite, polite, clearheaded. A libertarian if I am not mistaken.

Due to schedules, I have not been able to listen to Brudnoy for a very long time.

David is one of (if not the) the most intelligent commentators that I have personally ever heard in the media.

I had the honor of introducing Mr. Brudnoy as a keynote speaker twelve years ago. Chatting with him both before and after his speech was an enormous pleasure. A brilliant thinker and vociferous defender of liberty, the empty hole left by his departure will not be soon filled, intellectually or otherwise.

When I lived in Rhode Island I'd listen to both David and Larry Glick. Larry Glick made me laugh and David made me think.

Prayers for David.

In the winter, when the sun goes down sooner, he could be heard in 48 states on the clear channel WBZ radio, 1030 AM. He has been on 7:00 to 10:00 ET. When I was camping in Montana I could tune him in on my radio and hear the Boston sports scores.

I will miss him because he always was a real person on the other side of the radio. One knew he was true to his thinking and his words. He respected others, had conversations and debates as part of his program.

I couldn't agree more. A class act all the way. I grew up in the Boston area and listened to him regularly as a teen. He is one of the biggest reasons that a kid from MA became a conservative. When he passes, it will be like losing a family member. God bless David. May He ease your pain and give you the knowledge that you touched many lives in a very positive way. You will be missed.

He is gay, I assume that is how he contracted it. Although, it would be ironic if there was another reason.

The fact that he has HIV led to his cancer. The kind he had is usually found in peopel with extremely depressed immune systems - HIV patients and the very old: 80's and 90's.

Okay, so he contracted a dangerous disease having unnatural homosexual relations. We don't know how many other people contracted the disease due to him. I don't see him as a hero.

I just received a call from a friend who told me that another good friend had just died. He was a WW 11 vet. We had not been out to see him in a few months. His wife is not in the best of health either. What will she do without him? He was on the way to the doctor and had a heart attack. He was suffering from congestive heart failure. We will miss him.

There are people who disapprove of the homosexual lifestyle (me
included). There are people who hate homosexuals they have never even met. The latter group is composed of sick, hadrhearted individuals.
