President Bush is vowing to help House Republicans enact tighter immigration-security controls "early in the next session" of Congress.
The promise made in a letter to members of Congress was part of the final push by the White House to win support for the massive intelligence-overhaul bill, which was stripped of several key immigration reforms so it would pass more easily.
"I look forward to working with the Congress early in the next session to address these [border security] issues, including improving our asylum laws and standards for issuing driver's licenses," Mr. Bush wrote.[snip]
"While I am disappointed that Congress in classic fashion has squandered this golden opportunity, I am encouraged by the president's commitment," Rep. Tom Tancredo said yesterday. "And I have every intention of making sure he keeps it."

According to T.J. Bonner, the BP actually LOST 1000 agents last year due to budget cuts. Budget CUTS!!! The President has said that he wants to use their budget for more high tech stuff - which means even less agents. Now, we're already detecting more border intruders than we can handle (we can only catch 1 in 5), why would we want to improve our detection capabilities and not also improve our interdiction capabilities!? Insanity!
I didn't really notice, and I don't think your response was unfair, just clichéd. I'm prefectly willing to admit that there are issues of security and law in play with immigration. I just wish those on the far right side of the issue could admit racism is also a factor.
I've rarely had my opinions challenged by those who agree with me. I use and invite powerful language, because we are talking about powerful issues. I took no offense. No need to appoligize.
Reading bill1952's posts and laughing? Priceless.
Okay then, ya bastage. : )
Well, you have now convinced us all of your superior intellect...
It appears some of my superior intellect is rubbing off on you bill. One sign of intellegence is recognizing intellegence.
regarding your post #27. YOU brought race in to this discussion....so based on YOUR OWN "logic" it is YOU who are racist. These illegals (of all races, colors etc)...ARE INDEED a cancer on the American taxpayer.
The sooner you get cured of your rectal / cranial inversion syndrome, the sooner you will see what's REALLY bothering Americans....it has NOTHING to do with race, Compadre' , it DOES have to do with dollars.
Don't you realize that the 82 percent is wrong; always wrong; can't possibly be right?
This is part of the entire illegal immigration problem, too many people, including you, are afraid of "what people may think" if they speak the truth. I fear more for the future of our country than what some people may think of me.
The truth is that it doesn't matter if the 15,000,000 illegals are Mexican or Ukranian, it's not about race, it's about ILLEGAL ENTRY INTO THE U.S. These people are here ILLEGALLY for a reason. They need to go undetected by our government because a great many of them are undesirables, while others want to bleed our system, work under the table, suck the welfare benefits dry and get a woman pregnant for instant citizen status for the child and mother.
Furthermore, you have no idea that these 15,000,000 illegal aliens are 'hard working', 'decent nieghbors'. Frankly, sir, I would not ever enter another nation illegally, for two reasons. One, it's dishonest and criminal. Two, all other nations (wisely) have far harsher penalties for sneaking into their land than we do. The fact that Pres. Bush wants to grant blanket amnesty to 15,000,000 illegals whom he has no idea of who or what they are, what their history is, or what their intentions are, reveals that his heart is simply not into policing our borders.
I like the President and I voted for him, but he's flatout wrong on this immigration/border control issue.
Uh huh. And your illegal alien amnesty plan won't make the problem any worse. Pile of crap.

I don't like how that's worded, it's very specterish.
Good luck, Tom. You'll need it.
Yes, the standard should be citizenship or legal status.
Bump for later read
So we have now established that an illegal alien from south of the border assisted the terrorists that attacked New York.
And yet still the border has not been closed and the illegals have not been sent packing.
Astonishing.
Read post #8 and then say that Tancredo is anti-American again.
I dare you.
I'll agree with that. Free medical care, education, loans from govt, that citizens cannot get, help with buying homes in a country they don't belong in, in the first place.
what kind of reciprocation is coming from Mexico???
The USA will never be secure until we control our borders.
