"A night of terror" is how a man described the time he spent in what is said to be one of Warwickshire's most haunted houses.
Michael Chapman was one of 10 people who spent the night at Shrieves House Barn, in Sheep Street, Stratford.
The 500-year-old building, now home to Falstaffs Experience museum, is said to be a hotbed of paranormal activity.
Mr Chapman, 48, a fine art expert from a village near Stratford, said the ancient building soon revealed its dark secrets.
Volunteers reported feeling dizzy, sick and breathless, and felt icy chills and pains.
He said one woman suffered bruising after being hit on the head by a mystery object and others watched as a picture moved to and fro on the wall.
A photo was taken which is said to show the ghost of an eight-year-old girl who wanders the medieval hallways.
Mr Chapman and his daughter Melissa, 17, were the only two people brave enough to last the whole night - but it is a night they will not forget.
"We were total sceptics. I always thought the dead will never hurt you but now I am not so sure. We felt icy cold, saw flashing lights and I could smell burning - there was a fire here once in which people died.
"I am the most level-headed person there is - but there are things in there that left me thinking perhaps there is more to this world. Even the mediums had to leave.
"I don't believe in heaven and hell but I have to say it's got me guessing. It's a very spooky place." Melissa, a student, said: "I was one of those people who thought this life is all we have - now I am open-minded about everything.
"Something was pulling and shaking me on the night and things have been happening to me since I left. I was at college and someone kicked the chair from under me but there was nobody there. I've also felt a presence at home and in the car."
Other members of the group who stayed in the house at Halloween also said strange events had happened to them afterwards.
Dave Matthews, a white witch and owner of Could It Be Magic, in Shrieves Walk, said he returned to his shop at 3am to find it icy cold. He reports hearing mysterious footsteps and seeing objects being moved around. He then felt a sharp pain in his arm and believes he was followed by an evil spirit.
Another member of the group said she returned home to find the cupboard doors in her kitchen opening and closing and the contents on the floor.
Steve Devey, who owns the museum, said: "We are astounded but not surprised at the level of unexplained paranormal activity"
Haunted house ping
Is this an "echo" while the soul behind it has passed to heaven? and
.That some cling to this world even after death
No, it is demons, seducing you into the idea of unconditional immortality
spiritualism & familiar spirits (btw, one of the three unclean spirits, like frogs Rev.16:13)
Ecclesiastes 10:5 -
.for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, wither thou goest.
the dead go immediately to either Heaven or hell.
Daniel 12:2 -
.and many of them that sleep in the dust shall awake, some to everlasting life
.
took a Bible
.to bed with me
Then you should maybe look up Ecclesiastes 9:5
.the dead know not anything, the memory of them(that is, the dead ones memory) is forgotten.
Do see Elsies post .#112, please. It confirms this.
Matt. 24: Take heed that no man deceive you
.but many will be deceived.
Stevie Nicks 8-) They claim to only use magic for "good." Christians know better.
I have some friends who would put themselves in that category, and I do believe that they are sincere. I think the real difference is that most (not all) of those claiming to be "white" witches are simply decieved about the source of their power, while "black" witches (Satanists, Enochians, etc.) know perfectly well that magick is evil, but they crave the power and fear the sources of it enough that they pursue it anyway.
Amen, friend. And if you hear of any such properties in GA, let me know. ;^)
Any reference to "future events" relative to the subject - specific events relative to the subject, may surely be speculative in nature.
It's just not that much of a stretch (for me) to believe that many will be deceived by lying doctrines of demons. Paying heed to seducing spirits, and all that.
I realize people's mileage may vary....
But (for instance) when dead Aunt Tilly appears to say; "Christ is there" ....it will be a powerful deception, even to the elect.
Yup. And that's the danger. They don't know that they're playing with fire.
I hope you feel better now.... 8^D
Acts 19:13-16For this reason the Catholic Church reserves exorcism to the clergy. Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demonpossessed. They would say, In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out. Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. (One day) the evil spirit answered them, Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you? Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.
Sounds like my town's Halloween Walk.
My house was built in 1912, and the doors are all like that...
Other members of the group who stayed in the house at Halloween also said strange events had happened to them afterwards.
I do realize that the US Army was on a mission, but what happened to Custer was nothing less than a slaughter of men.
In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.
Note they didn't claim any personal relationship with Jesus Christ--they were invoking His name as a kind of magic talisman. That was their mistake. Frankly, I know enough clergy from all denominations who are in the same boat.
Conversely, if you are truly Christ's, you already have power in His name over every demon, fallen angel, and occultic power: "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover" (Mk. 16:17-18). This was not an authority that the Lord gave only to "professional" clergy, but to all who trust in Him.
It is very important that a person doing a deliverance is placing none of his or her confidence in themselves, but is absolutely confident in the Lord Jesus Christ. The demons cannot overcome a Christian by force of power when the Christian stands in the Name of Jesus, but they will, if you let them, bluff and deceive you into giving up. Going in timidly is more dangerous than "overconfidence" (if indeed one could have overconfidence in the Lord).
I'm not saying that everyone is called to a deliverence ministry, any more than I would claim that everyone is called to go preach in the third world, for example. But every Christian has authority over the demonic, and we can't try to limit His callings to the "professional clergy." He calls who He wills.
I think that is a misinterpretation. Jesus was talking about the faith required to cast some out and that kind of faith comes by prayer and fasting. Which lines up with other scriptures that tell us that faith is increased through prayer and fasting.
That's a good rule of thumb. But the exorcists that I've heard speak (including the chief exorcist of Rome) say that demons can possess people who aren't necessarily in a state of mortal sin. It's far less common, but still possible. According to these exorcists, the biggest risk factor for demonic possession is the victim's previous involvement with the occult.
Additionally, exorcisms can become violent. It can take several grown men to hold down a possessed person.
I've seen footage of non-Catholic exorcisms where the demons have jumped into the people praying over the possessed person.
A battle between armed forces. There's a difference between fighting (and losing!) a battle, and perpetuating a slaughter.
I fear the living far more than the dead there.
As mentioned in various posts between 77 and 138 every Christian has the authority to cast out demons. The point that was not mentioned is that we have to KNOW that we have that authority and we have to exercise it
