I've been watching CSpan all day. The fight over this intelligence bill is amazing. There are some great guys who fought for those protections, and will continue to do so. Funny, though the only speakers for the final version that was pushed by Pres. Bush were...all democrats, Pelosi, Harmon, Sheila Jackson Lee, Bob Menendez..... They mostly praised him. I guess he does know how to reach across the isle, even if he has to destroy his own party doing it.
FYI....

I think the Yes vote has a fair chance of winning. 98% of respondents now say 'yes'.
97% yes

Don Rumsfeld agrees with us:
Last week the Secty. of Defense had this to say:
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0411/16/ldt.01.html
DOBBS: Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is warning of the threat of terrorists entering this country through the same routes as those used by illegal aliens. Secretary Rumsfeld, traveling in South America, warned that enemies look for weaknesses and take advantage of them.
DONALD RUMSFELD, SECRETARY OF DEFENSE: The risk is that some of these human-smuggling routes into our country from this hemisphere could be used just as easily for terrorists.
DOBBS: And three million illegal aliens are estimated to be entering this country this year.
Secretary Rumsfeld also said the United States has to be, as he put it, smarter and quicker in securing our borders. The federal government's failure to secure those borders is leading individual states to take action. Arizona's Proposition 200, which limits state benefits for illegals, passed overwhelmingly two weeks ago. Now at least half a dozen other states are considering similar measures.
The Nays are 75. 75 congresspeople who have a spine. Mostly republicans. Congratulations, America, we just got another piece of "feel good" legislation.

President Bush does not want reform on illegal immigration, even if it means saving the lives of Americans here in the US. The Republicans are terrified of the illegal vote, and they are terrified of Bush and Karl Rove.
I watched the show also tonight and wondered how long it would be before Sensenbrenner is deep sixed by the Republican hierarchy.
Here are the House Nay votes: People, we have 75 representatives not representing the OBL. http://clerk.house.gov/cgi-bin/vote.asp?year=2004&rollnumber=544

The worst part of this intelligence bill is that the house bill passed with 68%. The senate gutted it of any effective immigration controls with a big White House push. The House of Representatives is our house, and their power just got trampled.
I sure hope so, we've been waiting THREE YEARS.
Yes, but even *those* are few & far between, & most of those are just *disrupter's*.
, just read some of the immigration threads. It is rather scary
Open borders in this day & age are much more "scarier".
btw....Welcome to FR......;o)
Our "compassionate conservative" President's work. Of course it's no coincidence that the majority of illegal aliens come from one place...
97% say yes.
Have I missed anything?
btt
I've had all I can stand of this machine today. There's always tomorrow! We'll get a list of those who voted for this hallow bill and make their lives more interesting...what do you say?
