I had my last Telex machine back in the early 80's and 'cable' addresses were quaint and 'passe' by then.
But, who can ever underestimate the guv'mint?

This sounds like something Michael Scheuer might do. See the recent article "The Cranks at the CIA."
Scheuer authored "Imperial Hubris."

Yeah, I could almost start to begin to convince myself to consider the possibility that things are heating up in Iraq, if it weren't for the fact that I wouldn't believe the Spew Yuck Slimes if they told me the sun was going to rise tomorrow...
probably the most important thing in attempting to put them out of our misery along with the rest of the MSM dailies is to do whatever we can to convince everyone we can, not to take them seriously *no matter what* they say. Danny Dangleberry has done it to himself and CBS all by himself, but maybe we could help the Spew Yuck Slimes along by encouraging everyone to ignore them.

Brings back memories of the early 80's when I worked in my company's international office. We still had one of those telex machines clanking away getting financial info from some of the overseas offices.
Back then our dual floppy disk PC was hot stuff!

I read the first five or six paragraphs, and they do not support what the headline claims. About four paragraphs down it is stated that the CIA officer says significant progress has been made and that the Iraqi people are to be commended for their resilience in the face of the ongoing terrorism.
The officer says the situation could get worse before it gets better, and the New York Times editors helpfully opine that the situation on the ground is not as rosy as what the Bush administration paints it to be (without offering any direct quotes from Bush officials to back up this opinion).
This is simply more headline hysterics from the folks who were gullible and dishonest enough to bring us the missing explosives story a week before the election.
