(Michael Stipe apologized in the name of the American people to the Mexican audience that went to see him sing with his band REM this past Friday night at the Sports Palace; he apologized not because he did not come to Mexico sooner, but because he knows that the Americans are not good neighbors.
"We are Americans, and in the name of our countrymen, who we all know are not the best neighbors, I offer you an apology" Stipe said in the final third of the concert which impressed the band very much.
"When I was flying to Mexico with Billy Joe (Green Day's lead vocalist), he tod me that the Mexicans are the best audience in the world" said the tall singer.)

"No en mi nombre...."
Oh, I'm like soooooo complected.
Bono is an arrogant, pretentious prima donna, but he's not gay. He's married and has four kids. Michael Stipe on the other hand is gay. Back when REM was good, they appeared here and he said that he would never come back because a bunch of girls threw lingerie at him while he was performing.
I apologize to Mexico for R.E.M.
The Mexicans must've thought he was nuts, too.
REM? Who buys or listens to that crap?
It was really meant to be a joke.He is a flake if you ask me.I can't stand the video where he goes around hugging people. He's suppose to be so religeous but blurts out the ol' f-word on live TV.His holier than though attitude turns my stomach.Stipe on the other hand is just a stupid bald headed homo that doesn't know what he's talking about.
I'm surpised he didn't take the stuff home and try them on and prance around the house.
Is that true - the guy is tall? I always thought he was a short little bugger.
Was Stipe appointed Secretary of State? Right. I didn't thought so. Give a man a microphone and he loses proportion of himself so quick... Sheesh.
I would like to apologise for their godawful music they play, but I won't.It ain't my fault.
True ---- notice how the liberals never question the extreme luxury the elite class of Mexico live in while 80% are barely making it in a land blessed with much wealth and natural resources.
To liberals Mexico is a socialist utopia ---- one they'd like to see the USA become.
I can't stand either of them now. I used to enjoy their music, but they've ruined it for me with their attitudes.
Is Stipe's boyfriend Mexican?
Stipe has stink-finger amigo?
The last time I listened to REM was in 1986 or so when they had that song "It's the end of the world...and I feel fine". After that, their music went south, so to speak, and never again did I bother with them.
Someone needs to make a translation of the entire article. Not sure exactly what he is apologizing for or if he is actually apologizing?
Not worth the effort. I'll make a summary. After the Billy Joe line, each line is about a paragraph:
"We'll come back soon"
"How was he dressed, sung some songs"
"Fans were looking, waiting for the top hits, yadda yadda"
"Pretty song, people cheers"
"Thank you, buy our new record"
"Strange looking person with a blue stripe on the face"
"More pretty songs"
"Popular song. Applause"
"Two songs more"
"Singer explains what the last songs mean"
At this point the article talks about "Kenneth". I somehow assume Stipe didn't describe it as "A song about a silly anchorman who talks about fake memos and attempts to influence elections".
"Another pretty song"
And that's it. No further explanation about the apologies.
Mexico has another neighbor --- a country much like itself --- Guatemala --- notice Vicente Fox doesn't go over their shaking his finger demanding "the whole enchilada" and "more, more, more". Mexico isn't sending boxcar and semi-trailer loads of it's citizens to Guatemala to get money from there to send back.
