As the new year approaches, major questions loom for Georgia's two dominant political parties. Both have little time and control of state government at stake.
For Republicans, it's how to govern. Glenn Richardson (R-Dallas), who will be speaker of the Georgia House next year, has begun to lay the groundwork. Fewer bills will pass and the ones that do will be judged on four points, he said. Among them: Whether they reduce the size of government, strengthen the traditional family, lower the tax burden or increase personal responsibility. "Unless proposed legislation answers yes to one of these questions, it will face a difficult course," he said.
For Democrats, and more specifically for the black and urban caucuses, a window exists. The window is no more than a year. The task is to make themselves presentable to whites outside the Perimeter. They're getting killed there.

Wooten's close:
***The power struggle within the Democratic Party is over. Blacks and beltway Democrats now dominate. It's their voice Georgians will hear. They will decide how moderate or shrill it is.
Their current voice is unelectable statewide. Time is short. The party is at real risk of falling into long-term minority status in both the House and Senate. By the end of 2005, before qualifying begins for the 2006 races, it had better find a voice that appeals to whites in rural Georgia.***

I say, they better find a voice that appeals to Americans. People that these LIBERALS pander to are dwindling too.
I guess this means no more presidential candidates who describe themselves as 'metrosexual', thank goodness.
I guess their lies will have to become bolder.
I am astounded that the AJC would even quote such heresy ( to the likes of them ).
While such utterances are nice to hear, we have a real problem in Georgia- the govenment is metastasizing like a runaway cancer... me & the missus know it's only a matter of time before we have to move to a lower tax county- anf that is only a holding action.
The problem is far too many people wanting far too many "services" from city, county, and state govenment- which we taxpayers, naturally, have to fund.
You're not alone.
Many property tax revolts are gearing up in the wings.
Taxes on our house have quintupled since we moved in, and IMHO it is not 5X the service we are receiving in return, but rather 5X the oppression.
The County is putting the finishing touches on what they style the "Government Safety Complex," built on the old Glynco NAS site.
You can't even get into the dam thing to see what your tax money paid for, the security is so tight.
It's supposed to "protect us" when hurricanes or other disasters strike, but all I see is an excuse to spend lots of money so the politicians & bureaucrats are safe. It's truly a disgusting use of that "free money" the govenment extorts.
And that is the reason that the cost & size of government aren't being reduced...not enough people want it to happen.
At one point, there was some disagreement between those two factions: the Blacks in the party felt that their interests were being subordinated to those of the "good old boys" who've dominated Democratic politics for decades in Georgia.
It's interesting to watch all this shake out.
...to be ignorant, poor, destitute, and have a chip on their shoulder so that they'll start voting Democrat again.
The Atl Urinal preachs to the Dem base, but no-body is listening to these frauds. The Dems are doomed to obscurity.
In Georgia, Atlanta and their mullet wrapper are millstones around the Democrats' necks. Jim Wooten may spin a strategy, but he cannot counter the deadly example of what Democratic policies leads to.
If I were a Georgia representative, I would be figuring out how to get services to people for less, especially via the web. For certain put every application and requirement for permits online. A thorough review of those requirements along the way would also be in order. Contract out building inspections to companies willing to insure the consequences. Get rid of State public works departments. Etc.
Your idea is a very good one which I agree with. I do some of that kind of work, so I know something about it. Unfortunately, believe it or not, governments are resource constrained when it comes to automating a lot of these functions. Most of them are on tight budgets, and only spend the money on automation when they have to. I don't have an answer to that issue, I just have a little information about it.
Democrats are a dying breed. Many of them are in jail, thus they want to change laws allowing felons to vote. Abortion is killing off another segment before they are even born. Gays are infected with HIV and they don't reproduce. The geezers who love big government are dying off. I predict the Democrat party will go the way of the Whigs. That's my cheerful thought for the day!
