Sep 21, 1883: Karl Marx's theories on Socialism were expounded at length yesterday before the Senate Committee on Labor and Education by Dr. Adolph Douai of the Volks-Zeitung.
Mr. Erastus D. Goodwin, a farmer from Falls Village, Conn. appeared as an advocate of "free trade", or at least a change in the tariff which would permit the importation of raw materials free of duty. Such a change would, in his opinion, be of great benefit to both the agricultural and industrial laborer.
At today's hearing, Mr. F.B. Thurber will be heard in advocacy of anti-monopoly principles.
I am not morbid or suicidal. I am so "upbeat", I make normal people sick ; )
was hillary there nodding yes?
"You guys on the other hand, seem to like a certain amount of morbid, suicidal tendancy! LOL! )"
CG and I also know how to spell tendency....................
ROTFLMAO! :)
LOL!
Oh, yeah. I love turkey sandwiches.I really did good on this smoked turkey this time. Really good.
Dad just came by on his way to my aunt's house. He ate some
of the turkey. He even said it was good, too.
I try to stay cheerful during the holidays. My daughter just married, so she will be otherwise occupied, my parents are dead, and my wife is overseas, so I ....I...
sniff....................
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!
You are pretty perky and upbeat.
It's part of why I like you!
Yeah, some of the kids were afraid of them alright.
Awwww.....
We'll be here for you!
Just smile at everyone and indicate you have a sore throat and it hurts to talk.
I picked up something else in his post, which is why I branded him a troll and pinged everyone. The context of the post was that the poster chose to make his point in reply to a post on Marxism. I took this as implying a left-wing argument to the effect that to recognize Marxism is de facto racist/xenophobic (i.e. the point underlying the poster's sarcasm was, "FreeRepublic is a bunch of rednecks"); hence my complaint in my previous post that I was being race-baited.
Incidentally there are many holes in the analogy the poster suggested, some of which have been pointed out already--e.g., your observation that German immigrants were here legally, previous posts noting that German immigrants did assimilate into American culture--as well as the fact mentioned in one of the articles I posted that the German community itself eventually ostracized the Marxist group being discussed; not to mention the fundamental fact that the issue was Marxism, not that the Marxists in question were German; among other things. I would have entertained a serious discussion of this if the poster had displayed some manners in their post, but their sarcastic tone did not give me the impression they were interested in a serious discussion, so I was not about to dignify it with a serious reply.
As for dropping the subject, it's dropped. I do indeed have bigger trolls to hunt.
"All I have to be is decorative and supportive."
If you were a bit smaller, I would hang you on my christmas tree!
IA, have you joined the Spelling Police? Oh no!
Change your poster name to Ricky Twerp.
That is exactly what I was reacting to. And it was particularly irritating because I hadn't even mentioned immigration!!!
Good smoked turkey is goooooooooooooooooooooood!
I don't sweat the small stuff. Definition of small stuff; "Things I can't fix that won't keep me out of Heaven."
I can see why!
I just had to deal with an illegal alien apologist/race baiter/reverse racist who likes to put words in other people's mouths and twist everything people say on another thread.
He sees himself as being a man on a mission and is trying to paint himself as a martyr.
So I really have 'no dog' in this one.
But I agree, we should stick together.
Besides, I live near the Onion Growing zone of Orange County NY.
They recently finally decided to selectively enforce immigration law and netted/caught/discovered 32 illegals at one farm.
Strangely, crime went down drastically once they caught the illegals.
Those here legally in my area as a rule of thumb tend to not do criminal behavior.
/ end tangential thinking.
