Bush's Ohio Win Was Closer Than Thought
Bush's Win Over Kerry in Ohio Was a Little Closer Than Originally Thought, Won't Trigger Recount
The Associated Press
Dec. 3, 2004 - President Bush's victory over John Kerry in Ohio was closer than the unofficial election night totals showed, but the change is not enough to trigger an automatic recount, according to county-by-county results provided to The Associated Press on Friday.
Bush's margin of victory in the state that put him over the top in his re-election bid will be about 119,000 votes smaller than the unofficial margin of 136,000, the county election board figures showed. That means Kerry drew closer by about 17,000 votes.
The margin shrank primarily because of the addition of provisional ballots that were not counted on Election Day and were not included in the unofficial tally. Overseas ballots also were added to the count in all 88 counties.
Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell will certify the results Monday.
The president's margin of victory was about 2 percent, not close enough to require an automatic recount. That is done only when the difference is 0.25 percent or less.
However, the Kerry campaign and two third-party candidates are seeking a recount. The Green and Libertarian parties said they have raised enough money they need to cover the costs.
The Kerry campaign said it is not disputing the outcome of the presidential race, but wants to make sure any recount is "done accurately and completely."
Just think of eats, shoots, and leaves
"I'm The Slime" comes to mind re: Air America and DUmmieland....
"You will obey me while I lead you....and eat the garbage that I feed you....till the day that we don't need you....don't go for help, no one will heed you....your mind is totally controlled, it has been stuffed into my mold and you will do as you are told until the rights to you are sold....."
Bush's margin of victory in the state that put him over the top in his re-election bid will be about 119,000 votes, smaller than the unofficial margin of 136,000, the county election board figures showed.
How much you want to bet that the writer left out a comma on purpose.
Send that a writer a copy of Eats, Shoots & Leaves
Can we get the AP writers some remedial math.
I am guessing they meant to say that Kerry lost by 117K instead of 136K. But that is not what this aritcle says.
Still 2% margin. So just Move ON RATS. Hey what about recounting WI (and checking a few of those Miwalkee ballots) where it was a lot closer.
That AP writer should be fired on the spot. I read that line 3 times. I knew better then to believe what it looked like it said. How misleading! They want the Dimwits to believe that the Republicans stole Ohio.
I just called AP regarding the wording above and they told me that they did not word it this way, and they want to look at it again. Let us see if they change this stupid misleading wording.
Call them in the AP Ohio office where the story originated at (419) 255-7113.
Tell them that this article was posted orginally on ABCNEWS website.
Re Escher like grammar:
It is really a case of Escher-like punctuation. If a comma had been inserted in the right place, there would be no confusion, as in:
Bush's margin of fictory in the state that put him over the top ... will be about 119,000 votes, (COMMMA HERE) smaller than the unofficial margin of 136,000...
In a related story, it's now been revealed that the Buffalo Bills actually lost Super Bowl XXVII to the Dallas Cowboys by a score of 55-24, rather than 55-17.
I know. It's just that without the comma, the image of the Escher staircase came to mind, in the way that the one clause seems to melt into a totally different one, with the meaning of the whole distorting sort of gradually. Maybe it's the bongloads, but it made me think of that. It is indeed funny what one missing comma will do.
What else would you expect from the AP? The jackass can't even compose a sentence that reflects the new victory total accurately.
It's just dawned upon me - why have a recount when there's no way it's going to change the outcome? Sounds dumb? Well wait, we're talking about liberals and most everything that they pursue is a friggin WASTE OF TIME.
Test this assumption the next time (God forbid) you have lunch with a liberal friend. Inquire as to what they're up to; you'll soon realize most of it is pointless and stupid ("We marched in a rally to protest the removal of an oak tree in the town square"). If you can make it through the entire lunch without laughing or rolling your eyes, then treat yourself to a shot of Jagermeister at the bar.
It must be 119k. 17k would be less than the 2% margin quoted in the article.
several Kerry states have winning margins that in total are less than the Ohio margin for Bush....IIRC..
headline could of also read Bush wins by more then 100000 but that wouldnt of been as good heh
mandate yes
we wonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Shhh! You could have gotten away with what you had! Your correction would literally RIGHT the story--ie, make it right. I actually like the word "right" in that context, because it reminds me of what you do to a capsized boat. "Captain! The SS MSM, she be sinkin'!"
Of course, he wrote it that way to create a false impression. These people make Pravda look like honest journalism.
Good thinking!
Am I the only one to notice that it seems to be the Democratic voters who have trouble casting valid ballots.
Maybe 'Remedial Voting 101' should be a pre-requisite to registration.
