A lump of coal in Denver's stocking (for banning the term "Christmas")
Ramblings' Journal ^ | 12.2.04 | Michael King

Posted on 12/02/2004 4:39:30 AM PST by mhking

Denver's holiday traditions include a Christmas Parade and the lighting of the City and County Building in downtown Denver.

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper recently announced that the phrase "MERRY CHRISTMAS" on the outside of the building will be changed to "HAPPY HOLIDAYS," in yet another politically correct attack on the institution of Christmas. And while they're at it, the city is stopping a church group from participating in the annual "Parade of Lights", and singing Christmas Carols.

Parade organizers claim that Christmas Carols may be offensive to some people.

...a church group who wants to march in the Parade of Lights and sing Christmas carols will not be allowed to participate in the parade. Organizers say the parade is about the holidays, not Christmas, but leaders of the Faith Bible Chapel say that's ridiculous.

"We can't pretend that Christ didn't exist and Christmas wasn't about his birthday, so we felt we could sing it and apparently that is not in social vogue anymore," said Pastor Gary Beasley, with the Faith Bible Chapel.

"This event is not one that has ever intended to have a religious message or a political message," said Susan Rogers, with the Downtown Denver Partnership.

She said no overtly religious symbols is allowed in the parade and that means participants can't carry "Merry Christmas" signs and can't sing traditional Christmas hymns.

Columnist Michelle Malkin has started the "Lump Of Coal" campaign, inviting readers to send a lump of coal to Denver's mayor, in the hopes of knocking some sense into his head.

If you want to participate, the address is:

Mayor John W. Hickenlooper
Denver City and County Building
1437 Bannock Street, Suite 350
Denver, CO 80202
And before I hear from you PC pooh-poohers and naysayers, please not that Denver has held this tradition for many, many years, and the term "Merry Christmas" has ALWAYS been used.

This overall practice of trying to minimize Christmas and the birth of Christ is completely off-base and out of line.

It seems that Christianity -- which is the religion of the majority of Americans -- is under attack as never before, mostly by PC-types who want to plow it under a wave of politically correct sayings and propaganda. We have a rogue court who has ruled that the phrase "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance is wrong, an elementary school principal who prohibits a teacher from using the Declaration of Independance in class because it mentions God (and of course, since the teacher is a Christian, the principal is "afraid" he might use the opportunity to preach in class, right?), and now we've got people insisting that Christmas Carols are wrong because they might "offend" people.

Well, quite frankly, in that instance, I don't mind offending people. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and I continue to sing and celebrate that fact from the rooftops. You are welcome to agree or not agree with me, but don't tell me that I can't celebrate that fact!

Oh. And the Faith Bible Chapel in Denver? Since they aren't being allowed to participate in Denver's Christmas Parade, they will walk the route an hour prior to the parade, singing Christmas Carols and passing out hot chocolate. God bless them!

Didn't "Kristalnacht" begin with the burning of Books and end with the burning of millions of people.
Christians better start responding to these totalatarian idiots who intend to criminalize being a christian and show them our feelings for our faith before we are done away with.
Jesus Christ is the reason for Christmas.

Well in order to comply with the true meaning of "spepartation of Church & State" all Government Employees should have to work on Christmas. We can't have the Governement Employees taking off on a religious holiday!

Just inform Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and the Denver City Council that they have become a dangerous city for Christian Americans. So you and your family will not be visiting Denver. If you own a corporation, tell him that you will not hold meetings in Denver.

Ever since the Islamofascist Mayor of Portland, Vera Katz, came out as a pro Islamofascist and anti America/GW mayor, we have stopped visiting Portland. We are not alone.

The State Department publishes a list of countries where Americans are not safe. We need to publish a list of anti Christian cities where Christians are not wanted and may not be safe.

Our personal list of anti Christian cities/areas to avoid:

San Francisco, Follywood, San Jose, Marin County, Oakland/ Berkley, Eugene, Oregon, Portland Oregon, Seattle and now Denver.

Let me get this straight. Any reference to the actual holiday is offensive to other religions, but a state sponsored sardonic parody is supposed to be accepted by Christians.
This parade is to Christians what a Minstrel Show is to Blacks. A Hate Crime is in the eye of the victim. Shut down this travesty.

Christmas is the day set aside to celebrate the birth of the Savior, albeit the Bible does not give specifics in this matter. Almost all churches that call themselves Christian recognize the date, even those that do not adhere to orthodox doctrines. The vast majority of Americans profess some variety of Christianity. The culture that underlies American society was strongly influenced by Biblical teaching, as is the Anglo-American common law that is foundational to our republican form of government.

This Christian foundation has been under attack for over a century in some quarters, such as academia and literary and artistic circles. In the early decades of the 20th Century, liberalism thoroughly infected the mainline Protestant denominations, whose Ivy League colleges, prep schools, seminaries, and other institutions were bulwarks of Christian faith and American civilization. Later in that century, the Roman Catholic Church in America was also swamped by a tide of liberalism, weakening it as a bulwark against the forces of darkness. The New Deal converted the Federal government from a limited role in society to a centralized, dominant element in American life.

The 1960s opened the floodgates of anti-Christian, un-American poison into our body politic. The sexual revolution, situation ethics, explicit sex and gore in the theater, then the movies, and finally TV, the hippie movement and its related drug culture, and multiculturalism were released like demons, destroying the lives of millions and undermining the foundations of American society.

As a result, Denver's 2004 "holiday" celebration involves the celebration of pagans and perverts. It is past time Christians boycotted this "holiday" nonsense and let not only the Denver City Council, but the corporate sponsors of this "holiday" such as the Metro Denver Ford dealers, Xcel Energy, Starbucks, et. al., of their displeasure at their endorsement of an anti-Christian, un-American agenda.

Astounding.

But hardly surprising.

Don't you love bureaucrats? It would be one thing if they had banned "Christmas" years ago but these losers are catching the wave on its way out.

Sent the Mayor this paragraph via email,  "Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper recently announced that the phrase "MERRY CHRISTMAS" on the outside of the building will be changed to "HAPPY HOLIDAYS," in yet another politically correct attack on the institution of Christmas. And while they're at it, the city is stopping a church group from participating in the annual "Parade of Lights", and singing Christmas Carols."

And told him I was stationed at Lowry AFB in 1958.

Hey, Gang! Here's a good site for free virtual e-cards. There are some cute animated ones here that have very strong "reason for the season" Christmas themes to them. I'm on it! I will also inform the Mayor and his staff that since I am a white Christian, I now feel afraid to visit his city to see family, and I will not be visiting for business reasons, either. If he can't prove to me that I would be safe and free to express my beliefs within his city limits, I can no longer take the chance of visiting. Jerk!

Christmas is not just a religious holiday. It is an official FEDERAL holiday. This is akin to banning the term "Happy Thanksgiving" on Thanksgiving day.

The First Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof .......

Translation: It is unconstitutional for Congress to establish the Church of the United States of America and it is unconstitutional for Government to prohibit you from wishing someone a Merry Christmas.

A lawsuit all the way up to SCOTUS is in order here.

I just called the mayor's office. You can get right through. CALL! CALL! CALL!

The radical leftists did not learn their lesson on Nov. 2nd. We need to hold their heads under the water everytime they start to take a breath.

Yes, thanks to the ACLU and their ilk.

You can join the fight against these people by becoming involved with and supporting the following organizations:

American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) - http://www.aclj.org

Thomas More Law Center (TMLC) - http://www.thomasmore.org

Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) - http://www.alliancedefensefund.org

The Rutherford Institute - http://www.rutherford.org/

Here are just a few recent examples of how two of those organizations are fighting back:

ADF Contacts Over 3,600 School Districts Over Attempts To Censor Christmas

ADF: 700 lawyers ready to fight ACLU lawsuits

ADF: Pentagons' Warning About Boyscouts Is Absurd

Thomas More Law Center: Town of Palm Beach Pays $50,000 In Attorney Fees Apologizes To Women In Nativity Lawsuit

His rep said that the Mayor had not yet taken a position regarding the lighted city signs. He was polite and agreed to convey my thoughts to the Mayor.

Y'know, I watched the end of a Tech-TV show the other day (I don't remember what the show was called), and they were doing a Christmas special. At the very end, the hosts and crew got out and said, "Happy Nondiscriminatory Winter Season". It was obviously satire, but the PC police would like us all to be talking that way.

Merry Christmas. If you're offended, suck it up.
