It's interesting that in Singapore they sometimes invite members of the Christian faith (after all they're the experts) to explain their holiday to the public. That way, everyone can respect and learn from each other.

Ah, but just try to do that with any other religion's holidays, and FReepers would be in revolt at "having that unprintable cult's beliefs shoved down our throat"...

Not that it's a bad idea, mind you, but it's gotta be all or nothing - the First Amendment requries it.

Since certain powers that be want to make Christmas a private holiday, I wonder what's going to happen when Christians take them up on it.

The Jewish merchants who founded some of our great department stores had no problem promoting Christmas.

I like how you think, Mol! I love to sing. Join me, will you?

Do You Hear What I Hear?

Said the night wind to the little lamb,
"Do you see what I see?
Way up in the sky, little lamb,
Do you see what I see?
A star, a star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite,
With a tail as big as a kite."

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,
"Do you hear what I hear?
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
Do you hear what I hear?
A song, a song high above the trees
With a voice as big as the the sea,
With a voice as big as the the sea."

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,
"Do you know what I know?
In your palace warm, mighty king,
Do you know what I know?
A Child, a Child shivers in the cold--
Let us bring him silver and gold,
Let us bring him silver and gold."

Said the king to the people everywhere,
"Listen to what I say!
Pray for peace, people, everywhere,
Listen to what I say!
The Child, the Child sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light,
He will bring us goodness and light."

Denver Mayor Hickenlooper changes mind on Merry Christmas sign!

WOOO HOOO!!

YAY!

However, from your thread:

The Parade folks are still not allowing anything to do with Merry Christmas in the parade, though they are allowing some holy native American gay and lesbians and other similar groups.

This, naturally, prevents any 'victory' from being declared and is quite troubling, although it's certainly a positive step in the right direction.

My suggestion: Continue with plans to bombard the Mayor's Office with charcoal lumps, VERY Christian Christmas cards, etc. so that he gets just a small idea of the forces that he is insulting.

For him to have made such a mistake (his own admission) at the outset suggests a spineless wimpishness that bends with the prevailing political winds.  Let's remind him how very strong the Traditional political winds are and visit a hurricane upon the Mayor's office.

I suggest keeping this up until the Parade itself is allowed to return to it's traditional focus.

I am on a Christmas campaign too! Every time I see Merry Christmas on an ad I call the head of the company and say "Thank you for being brave enough to say Merry Christmas- I am spending my money with YOU!"

Every time I get a surprised response. Please make sure to call these people- who stand up for Christmas and let them know they are not alone and that you did notice! It really does mean something to those folks. Merry Christmas everyone!

I liked John better when he was brewing beer. The politically-correct attitude he demonsrates, however, seems to permeate most of the craft brewing industry.

It's enough to make me go back to PBR.

Denver Colorado Freepers; I have a really good idea for the "Holiday Parade"
Organize some CO Freepers to go to the parade dressed as the Holy Family!!!

You could have lots of Mary's, Joseph's and baby Jesus's holding candles and stuffed lambs.
Guess who would get the attention and the press?!!!!
Of course notify the press in advance :>)
Now that would be some "Joy to the world!"

I am from Michigan but I have a close personal friend who would drive to Denver to take part in this!!

Someone please post this on the Colorado state board

Don't you get it? PC(Pro Communist) Americans have a problem with the words "Merry Christmas" because they were taught by Stalin that "Religion is the opiate of the people".

Ironically, "Festival of Lights" is what some call Chanukah.

So - by calling it a "Parade of Lights", it actually indicates a JEWISH celebration?!
