Anybody watch the special 2-hour Tom Brokaw Retrospective this past Friday night? Me neither. But today we celebrate the reason for the big deal: the retirement of Tom Brokaw after 20 years anchoring NBC Nightly News. Tonight's broadcast will be his last sit-down at the anchor desk!
Brokaw saw himself has unbiased: "The idea that we would set out, consciously or unconsciously, to put some kind of ideological framework over what we are doing is nonsense." (on C-SPAN's Washington Journal, 5/25/01) While it is true that Brokaw may have spent less time in the crosshairs of media bias activists than his colleagues, Dan Rather and Peter Jennings, he certainly spread liberal bias in his own fashion.
Tom Brokaw frequently managed to fly under the radar of media bias activists, not by being less biased, but by being less outrageous than his brethren at the other broadcast networks. Nonetheless, his name came up often enough that we were pleased to learn recently that he found the activists' activities incredibly irritating.
We are also delighted at the prospect of Brokaw's retirement and urge him not to let the screen door hit him on the backside. Email Brokaw your retirement wishes.

Tom, all right already. Enough with the self-serving accolades.
Get off the stage and let some other haircut in a suit take over.
We can't wait to see which stepford husband that will be.
Yawn.
I believe Tom Brokaw was the guy who said the 1994 election was a "temper tantrum by angry white males."
In other words, this parasite does not understand the difference between a democratic election, governed by due process of law, and an uncontrolled emotional outburst.
Now, why is it I should care about this A-hole one way or the other?
Little will change at NBC news. Brian Williams is as liberally biased as Brokaw ever was - and a stuffed shirt, too. However, it is good to have Brokaw out of the anchor chair because of the "respect" automatically accorded that position by sheeple. The same can be said for Rather at CBS. The new guys will not be imbued with the gravitas of news reader/father figure for a while and viewers will become open for a time to further education about media bias.
2 hours? It was more like a week. Seriously, Brokaw was full of himself his final week on the air.
Doubt it. Throught a jackbooted liberal court he's banned hunting on and around his property, including 2,700 acres of property he doesn't own because he fears for the safety of himself and his family.
I will never forget election night 1980, when Brokaw said something to effect of "Our NBC exit polling has shown a large last minute movement to------(long pause) Reagan." He looked like he just just fouled himself as he said it, priceless.
