NOTE - Free Muslims Against Terrorism partnered with the Free Republic Network in the "National March Against Terror" and now are a lead organization in the "March Against Terror Worldwide" effort.
The Free Muslims Against Terrorism (Free Muslims) have partnered with progressive Arabs and Muslims to hold religious leaders accountable for justifying violence and encouraging terrorism.
The Free Muslims are petitioning the UN Security Council and the United States government to establish an international tribunal to prosecute religious leaders, including clerics who issue fatwas which are religious opinions, edicts, rulings and conclusions that incite violence and justify the use of terrorism. These religious leaders are especially dangerous because some of their followers consider their opinions to be gospel.
This petition is a follow up to the recently adopted UN Resolution 1566 that reads in part:
"...[A]ll members of the Security Council to consider and submit recommendations... on practical measures to be imposed upon, individuals involved in or associated with terrorist activities bringing them to justice through prosecution or extradition, freezing of their financial assets..."
It is crucial to hold these religious leaders accountable because most terrorists who kill in the name of Islam rely on the fatwas and conclusions of these religious leaders to convince themselves that they are going to heaven after their death.
The Following is an example of a Fatwa that encourages terrorism:
Sheikh Yousif Al-Qardhawi issued a Fatwa permitting the killing of fetuses (unborn) Jews, because (according to him) when Jews are born and grown-up they will join the Israeli army. Furthermore, on September 3, 2004, (at the Egyptian Journalist Union) Al-Qardhawi issued a fatwa to kill all American civilians working in Iraq. And on July 3, 2004, he issued another fatwa permitting the killing of Muslim intellectuals as being apostates, claiming that Islam justifies the killing of such apostates.
These extremist clerics continue to issue fatwas that incite terrorism under the false umbrella of Islam. Join us in stopping these religious leaders by signing this petition requesting the U.N. to create an International Tribunal to prosecute them.
This petition has been organized by Dr. Jawad Hashim (Iraqs former Minister of Planning), Lafif Lakhdar (A Tunisian Intellectual), and Dr. Shakir Al-Nabulsi (A Jordanian writer and author). The Free Muslims Against Terrorism has joined this effort and we seek 20,000 people to sign this petition. More than 3,000 people have already signed.
All people are invited to sign this petition by sending your name, profession, country of residence and nationality to Jmhashim@hotmail.com and cc: President@freemuslims.org. Write petition in the subject line.

I share your disdain and distrust of the UN but the Muslim world is collectively obnsessed with it. It would reach a wider audience worldwide and be taken seriously by more Muslims than any resolution issued by any other body.
We're wining in Iraq, what about the rest of the militant Muslim world? Are you suggesting we invade each one of them?
It's FMAT, Free Muslims Against Terrorism. You could just click the link at the top of the page.
How many of those partners do you think will be around when we go into Iran?
Getting a UN resolution will separate the terror fighters and the terror supporters.
On what planet and in who's mind.........theirs?
I understand what you are saying. I think that treating mosques and their religous leaders that are used to store weapons or operated as jihad recruitment centers as they ought to be treated will have a much greater effect and you don't need the UN. A round of 9 will stop it now, an international tribunal involving the UN won't.
Consider Libya as an example and why do you think Iran is twitching right now. They are the filling in a sandwich. No UN resolution will ever accomplish that.
All of them plus more.
All of them plus more who now better understand what is at stake. Don't be afraid of military action.
Not sure why that was an empty post???
Now it shows up - nevermind.
As I asked before, which military unit are you serving in which will be asked to enter all these Muslim countries? I suggest you think about the human toll on our serviceman before you flippantly make comments such as this and reject out of hand any proposal which may help to lessen that burden on them.
The war on terrorism won't be won until the Muslim world rids itself of the pipe dream of Pan Arabism and joins the civilized world. Groups like this one are the stepping stones they need in order to do that.
One of the things that has so angered Westerners about Muslims since 9/11/01 is the near silence where the condemnations should have been. I say near silence because there HAVE been condemnations, but the Islamophiles in the mass media refused to report them. Now there's a group going for a wider exposure of their condemnations and actual penalties against the bad guys, it would be rather hypocritical of us to turn around and discurage them.
Not a flippantly made comment. More will die with the UN running the show. THe UN is a broken organizatin that has been corrupted top to bottom.
I now see better what you are wanting to with this, exposure of these clerics would change to some degree how the rest of the world views their activities. But isn't there a way to do it without making the UN useful.
I doubt it. The mass media has been completely against people like them from the beginning, because moderate Muslims run counter to the pro-terrorist propaganda the media's been spoon feeding us for decades.
Might just help move things the right way.
Charging the clerics is a good idea and a start, but good luck getting anyone to do anything in the USGOV with it. Its too politically sensitive.
I tried for years to get Arafat indicted for crimes against peace, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Not one scintilla of interest from the UN or the USGOV. Senators and congressmen didnt even bother to return me a letter for the effort. They fear the repercussions.
The problem with taking it to the UN is that the majority of nations in the UN are muslim and they would have a fit if someone tried to punish some of their clerics for closely held wahabbi points of view that were incorporated into public sermons, and they dont recognize secular or non muslim courts of law.
They also dont seem to realize there is no difference between Goebbels and these clerics.
Good luck to you guys in your endeavors. I'm still trying myself.
