I had a problem with one of my liberal sisters during Thanksgiving dinner. But no matter how vehemently we disagree politically, I would never call her the names that the DU denizens called their conservative relatives. I hate my sister's political beliefs, but I love her very much and I won't let politics come between us.

Just some good-natured ribbing for the handful of Dems in our family. Republicans outnumber them 2 to 1, easily.

We had a gathering of about 30 people at my SILs. Instead of grace, we went around the table and all said what we were thankful for.

With the exception of the little kids, every adult/teen said they were thankful for Family, God's Bounty and Country in one form or another. It was wonderful.

You know, I got on pretty well with my liberal relatives over Thanksgiving, which would be pretty much all of them. When they started going on about this, that and the other, and asked my how I could vote for the President, I merely told them that I was in favor of a muscular and robust War on Terror, and that is really all that matters to me, and that I thought President Bush would carry the fight to the terrorists, and John Kerry would not. When they started kvetching about the War in Iraq, I told them that I supported the War in Iraq and that the sacrifices were worth it.

After that, we got along just fine.

It seems many people forget the old adage advising the avoidance of discussions about religion and politics, particularly at the table. Rarely are anyone's views changed; argument is hardly conducive to digestion.

My former-liberal-retired-teacher-brother with new job as insurance salesman is now talking like a Republican

Some people (myself included) believe that you are what you believe and that what you believe can't be compartmentalized into "this is politics and that is family"

When you have no moral base, I guess politics becomes your religion.

I can't imagine that day of thankfulness being suitable for political discussions

I had a wonderful time with my family, and it sounds very much the same as yours. My long lost uncle and his wife came for the day, which was nice because I hadn't seen him in a decade or more. My father pulled out geneaology research he's done and shared that with my uncle, we looked at their childhood pictures and laughed that a gay cousin (even as a child) was holding a doll like the girls in the picture while the rest of the boys held guns and planes. I played ball with my sons and nieces in the yard. We ate too much. I don't think there was any talk of politics even though I hadn't seen my brother since the election.

Of course, we're all Republicans, so political discussion wouldn't have been controversial or memorable, anyway. We'd have all agreed we were glad about Bush, gladder about Kerry and that would've been that.

since the news blackout.

Anyone notice this little tidbit? I think the idea is that the evil right wing MSM is blacking out all news about the grossly-fraudulent election, which of course Kerry won by a landslide.

What nutters

The kids had prior commitments; my wife and I took advantage of an empty house and fixed corned beef and cabbage, butter beans and a store-bought pie.

We pretended it was spring.

I forgot, I placed four yams alongside the oven-boiled brisket and had killer buttered yams; not a grain of added sugar.

LOL! The more they talk, the more obvious it becomes that they are total losers!

No, none of the Demonrats in my family said diddly-squat to any of us. We're the only ones earning a living so they're rather dependent upon the Christmas gifts we'll be giving them this year.

Good thing for them that Bush got re-elected or their might not be any gifts! LOL!

There must have been 50 or 60 people at my Grandmother's house and not a Kerry voter in the bunch.

It's not fair! I didn't get to abuse anybody!

Liberal tolerance at it's finest.

How in the heck can you politically compromise with someone who won't even talk to their own relatives?

Answer: You don't. But offering up a one way euro vacation might break the ice. Heheheh,, who am I kidding?

Give 'em New Jersey, Michigan and KaKafornia and they can socialize themselves silly. We'll even build 'em tunnels to travel back and forth!

Save this list of comments and see what the Dims are saying in 2-3 years about Iraq and the world, after all has calmed and our troops are fighting bad guys somewhere else in the world with Iraqi troops at their side. Oh...wait a minute. That's right the Dims will then no longer admit to ever having been against Bush in the first place as the winds shift and being a supporter of Bush is "cool". Riiiight!
