Oops. Bad HTML. I meant that the media IS covering ths story. When the press does a good job, it should be praised, not bashed.

Wow! He should especially be a role model for those of us in the 40+ crowd. Look at all he has done and is doing - he simply won't stop.

Not my point at all. Some people see the uniform and the flag patch. Others just see the color of the guy wearing it, or see that first.

Do you think that this story will get 1% of the coverage that Michael Jordan got whenever he spent a day playing golf while smoking a cigar or other "newsworthy" events? I think it's great that some media outlets reported on the story, but if Sgt. Major Jordan had not been MJ's brother, it wouldn't have been reported at all. I just wish that the media reported "good news" stories such as this one more often.

But you're right, I shouldn't have painted the media with a broad brush when replying to a "good news" story posted by a media outlet.

"IMHO Blacks need better role models than rappers and Jesse Jackson."

Talk about a back-handed compliment. That's like saying Whites need better role models than the Klan and Michael Moore. Please let's not believe that "all" of any group aspire to be what another group despises.

Fact is whites DON'T see the Klan as role models, while most black Americans see Jesse Jackson as a role model according to a BET survey posted here not too long ago.

It wasn't an online survey. Search for it at FR as I clearly remember a big discussion about it. FYI, Colin Powell was second which was somewhat encouraging.

Trippin, I was just trying to make the point that not "all" of any group believes one way or the other. I applaud CSM Jordan for his service but I don't find it extraordinary nor rare. I served with many brothers (and sisters) during my 20 years in the military. They may not have had famous siblings but I honor their service as much as I honor CSM Jordan's.

Of course! But clearly role models matter to young people, and I would rather have youngsters look up to people like Jordan and Powell than Jesse Jackson.

At 5'7" CSM Jordan is one helluva big man. Selfless, yes and definitely his own man.
