La Raza WELCOMES NOMINATION OF GONZALES TO SERVE AS ATTORNEY GENERAL

Washington, DC – The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., today welcomed President Bush’s nomination of White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales to succeed John Ashcroft as Attorney General. If confirmed, Gonzales would be the first Hispanic ever to serve as Attorney General.

“We are very encouraged by the Gonzales nomination. We previously criticized the Bush Administration for not having an Hispanic in the cabinet since the departure of former HUD Secretary, now Senator-elect, Mel Martinez. We are pleased that one of the first acts since the President’s reelection both rectifies that situation and marks an historic milestone for the Latino community. Never before has an Hispanic served as head of one of the four major cabinet posts – Secretary of State, Treasury, Defense, and Attorney General,” stated Janet Murguia, NCLR Executive Director and COO.

Murguia also noted Gonzales’ ties to the Hispanic community throughout his career. “Alberto Gonzales served with distinction on the board of directors of one of NCLR’s oldest and most respected affiliates, the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA) in Houston, Texas. Moreover, during his tenure as White House Counsel, he has been one of the most accessible members of the White House staff to NCLR and other Hispanic organizations,” added Murguia.

Murguia concluded, “We acknowledge that this is the first step of a long confirmation process that requires that his record be fully examined. That being said, Gonzales is a thoughtful, reasonable public servant, a man of his word, and we have every expectation that his nomination will be very well received in the Latino community.”

FYI - The next George Bush is hispanic

I know that. I don't believe in American dynasties. Two Bush presidencies are quite enough, thank you.

I guess in your world, not even being legally born in the US makes you an American if your surname is Hispanic.

Good try, Luis, but no cigar.

I continue to believe that assisted ILLEGAL invasion by the millions of people from one country is not only strange, but deliberate, thus my opinion that we are experiencing the Mexicanization of America, the deliberate importation of poverty, ignorance, disease and dependence.

but those earlier decisions are worrying.

Which other decisions outside of Jane Doe 5 are you worrying about?..... can you list a few?

I agree it's a little early to be vetting him for SCOTUS but not out of the question imo.

There is no photo in post #12.

Luis, I agree 100% with NewRomeTacitus. I was totally shocked. At this point he certainly is not a conservative. He sounded like another liberal. He needs a whole lot of growing up to do, if he ever does.

Ha! This is great. These guys are now pro-Bush.

Well, of course they are now Pro Bush. The President wants to open the border, grant amnesty and invite the entire nation of Mexico to live in America.

However, I am not all that sure it is great.

We are discussing Alberto Gonzales, a natural-born American citizen whom you insist on assigning citizenship to a country that he's never been a citizen of.

You consider his appointment the Mexicanization of America when he is in fact American and has never been Mexican.

Explain yourself.

Alberto Gonzales, an American, yet a former member of La Raza, would not be my choice for AG. See my comments above about ILLEGAL immigration. I don't fall for your race baiting, Luis.

"Alberto Gonzales, an American, yet a former member of La Raza."

Source please.

Did you disapprove of Ronald Reagan, a former Democrat, as a choice for GOP candidate?

So, he said that the use of chili-powder filled paint balls is reprehensible.

Let's burn him at the stake.

I can't quote and source, but these articles were on FR a few months ago when he went to Mexico on his honeymoon. They are somewhere here on FR. I didn't save them. You look for them. I know what I read.

Let's see...you call his appointment "Mexicanization" in spite of the fact that he's not Mexican, and Joey posts his picture as if there is something unamerican about his skin color, but I'M race baiting?

LOL!!

I have seen no proof that this nominee is or was a member of La Raza, nor have I seen anything that indicates he support the reconquest agenda of La Raza. If you have any evidence to the contrary please post and ping me. thanks.
