That's the most amazing picture... the woman still looks beautiful, barely a hair out of place, lying on the crumpled car roof. It's gotta be on the internet somewhere...(off to look)...

Never saw it-----my Dad (who is here with me now) said Gramps couldn't sleep for 3 days.

Not much could faze Gramps---he was a WWI vet who saw more than his share. That really got to him, though.

He was still alive when the WTC opened and was invited to the dedication.....he went into the building looking up.

3.8 million people

That's a lot of people. Very low suicide rate. Safe place, that.

80 storey fall? That's a long time to consider your decision.

That comes from listening to too much Ozzy and Priest. Or maybe you simply need a hug ... or better yet, a pet. May I suggest a nice kitty cat?

>I went to the 86th floor balcony of the Empire State building once<

I have to hold onto the shoulder of a perfect stranger going down the open stairwell of a parking garage (from the second floor!). You should have seen me going up the Space Needle the first time, plastered to the back of the elevator. But the second time I went up it was a breeze!

I think the photograph wound up on a LA punk album cover in the early 1980s. Particularly haunting photo, because she was quite attractive. Sad.

those who choose to make their demise public completely baffle me

Nah, go out in style, I say! If you are going to flip the final bird to the world and kill yourself you may as well make a spectacle of it. Leave something newsworthy to remember yourself by or it will just be a wasted opportunity. If someone finalizes the decision to commit suicide, there are many great things one can accomplish in the process.

But a smidge too late to act on a decision reversal. He never felt a thing.
