LOS ANGELES - For relatives and friends of U.S. troops serving in Iraq, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" was the place to be. Studio audience members, all with a military connection, were surprised with the gift of a free cruise at a taping Tuesday. The episode of the syndicated talk show, with guest Tom Hanks, aired Wednesday.
A total of 250 seven-day cruises for four, along with taxes and fees, were given in appreciation of troops deployed from three California bases: Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Camp Pendleton and Fort Irwin.
Celebrity Cruises is providing the vacations, available at any time to allow for troops overseas to take part on their return, according to a spokeswoman for the show.
DeGeneres also joined with the USO to send more than 5,000 care packages to the audience's relatives and friends in Iraq. The episode will be repeated on Thanksgiving on the Armed Forces Network.
Don't ask! Don't tell!
Good Start.
A nice gesture but I don't like her. My guess is teh TV syndicator paid for this to make her look like a nice lady like Oprah with the free cars that GM paid for. Two phony promos if you ask me.
I don't like Ellen and I have told American Express to stop sending me credit card offers because Ellen is their spokesperson and I get pop-up sh*t ads for the Am Ex Gold card.
Good on Ellen!
What very generous things to do.
Thank you, Ellen, and God bless. Hopefully, other celebs will follow her example.
Looks like free publicity for her. The woman is not funny at all. If it wasn't for her sexual perversions, nobody would know who she is.
It's amazing to me that a no talent like ellen is still in the news.If she were not a lesbian she would have long ago faded into obscurity..
Well done, Ms. DeGeneres.
BTTT
I always thought she was funny. Don't give a damn whether about her personal life. She just did a FINE thing. What does her sexual proclivities have to do with it??
Are these cruises for bisexual women soldiers ony?
Whether or not you agree with her lifestyle, it still was a nice gesture.
C'mon.....publicity or not...she didn't have to help the military. She could of gave away computers or makeovers. This was a great gesture...and I think it's VERY nice of her.....I also think she is very talented and funny. I applaud her for this.
A nice gesture but I don't like her. That's really too bad. She is actually a quite funny, and also "verbally clean" comedian.
What she does in her private life is none of my business, as long as she doesn't demand the right to appropriate the sacrement of Marriage.
Well said, bonfire.
I disagree. She had a pretty good stand-up gig going and then got into her sitcom before she came out. I think she's quite funny.
I disagree. She was funny before, and she is funny now. To me, anyway.
She was famous before she came out of the closet. And, she was extremely funny when she wasn't on her lesbian schtick.
