LOS ANGELES - For relatives and friends of U.S. troops serving in Iraq, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" was the place to be. Studio audience members, all with a military connection, were surprised with the gift of a free cruise at a taping Tuesday. The episode of the syndicated talk show, with guest Tom Hanks, aired Wednesday.
A total of 250 seven-day cruises for four, along with taxes and fees, were given in appreciation of troops deployed from three California bases: Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Camp Pendleton and Fort Irwin.
Celebrity Cruises is providing the vacations, available at any time to allow for troops overseas to take part on their return, according to a spokeswoman for the show.
DeGeneres also joined with the USO to send more than 5,000 care packages to the audience's relatives and friends in Iraq. The episode will be repeated on Thanksgiving on the Armed Forces Network.

a no talent like ellen is still in the news Ellen was quite good as a voice over character in Finding Nemo. But this is a publicity stunt. It is good advertising. But there is still nothing wrong with this.

Look, I'm trying to be charitable to Queers here.

I hope there are a hundred/thousand copycats for our GIs.
Thank you Ellen.

I have been agreeing with you on this thread, but now I am not sure where you are starting to go with this sinkspur. Hmmm, being black equates with being a lesbian? One has to do with skin pigment, one has to do with the way you choose to have sex (regardless of one's "orientation," how you have sex, and with whom, is a choice).
I find her funny, as long as she stays off the gay kick. I don't really care what she does in her bedroom either, but she did go further than that with her show. I am glad it failed, and failed miserably once she took that storyline.
I believe, and really do think most people believe, that having homosexual sex is both unnatural. Many of us also find it immoral. But I also believe most of us are not into looking into other people's bedroom to see what they are doing. Therefore, if she and others don't push it in my face I won't make a big deal of it either. But that is much different than saying it is the same as being black.
Still glad she, AND CELEBRITY CRUISES, did the bit for the troops. Good stuff. And we should not be afraid to agree with what someone does just because we do not agree with everything they do....or we sure will find ourselves pretty lonely real soon.

"My wife loves her."
My husband loves her. Thinks she's very sweet. Her sexuality is her business and she seems to have calmed down with the in your face stuff.

Some might consider the price of the cruise a little too high, in that they don't like who they would have to thank - an enemy of ever thing they are fighting for. But I expect they would not have been at an Ellen De Generes show anyway. Must have been that part of the military that voted for the traitor for President. They have no self respect anyway.

Good for her, she sure made sure everyone in the world knew of her arranging the generosity, so she got everything already she deserved in recognition.

And she is very nice to people. But not the Big Guy upstairs, and that's what counts most.

"She's not funny and she made a huge deal about announcing her sexual preference on a sit com."
She's funny!! Very intelligently funny. Yes she messed up when she did the in your face lesbian stuff. That was a while back and she's different now. Live and let live!!

For one thing, Ellen's actually funny, and has always managed to be likeable. Even when handed a craptacular script (ever see Mr.Wrong or any episode of her last sitcom?) she manages to spin gold.

I think she realizes that her brand of good clean comedy appeals most to red-state types, and has had enough run-ins and communication with fans to know this. They appreciate her in spite of whatever disagreements they may have, and she returns in kind.

Her last two shows failed because of bad writers which didn't recognize that her gifts lay in self-deprecation and improvisation. Her new show allows her to be herself, performing without a net, and she's managed to charm her way to the top of the ratings heap.

Oprah wannabe? Remember the free cars she gave away?
None the less, nice gesture.
She knows which way the wind is blowing. i.e. crushing defeat in November w/ state initiatives for gay marriage.

How nice of Ellen. When most of Hollywood detest the troops and second guess them, she is doing something nice. Hats off to her.

Do you think the "Big Guy" smiles upon what you have said in this thread? Brother, I would not trade you places come Judgment Day. May Jesus' love shine upon you and show you the Way.
p.s. Look again to see if YOU know how to love the sinner and hate the sin.

".....she was a house painter for a time. :-)" -------- I can see her doing that! I really like her. I'm glad she's through with being a "shock-mistress", that role never suited her a bit.Right! She's a very down to earth girl. I've followed her career since the beginning. Time will show anyone who does not carry those burdensome hatred of gays, that she is a quality person. She's extremely naturally funny, much of it borne from her personal conflicts, and her humor is very clean, and she keeps politics out of it all. She's just a very nice person!
I hope time treats her well. She's a good one.

Please have a pleasant and meaningful Thanksgiving.

Don't personally care what her 'chosen lifestyle' is. I DO like the fact that she is showing support for Troops; I hope it is not just a disguised attempt to 'support the troops, but not the cause or the Commander'.
To: ladyinred
As far as I know, Ellen has NOT been out there running her mouth about politics for the past four years like the rest of the Hollwood A*holes. That fact alone puts her a notch above in my opinion.
To: Dienekes
I did see her wearing a "Vote or Die" shirtShe may not have worn it in a conservative context, but that phrase, although harsh & direct, would work just as well for the Republican party.
