AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch leaders on Wednesday condemned comments by a Muslim teacher who said he hoped for the death of a popular politician, further stoking religious tension prompted by the murder of a filmmaker critical of Islam. Abdul-Jabbar van de Ven, a Dutch convert to Islam, told a Dutch television chat show on Tuesday he hoped anti-immigration populist Geert Wilders would soon die, although he did not want him to be killed by a Muslim.
Interior Minister Johan Remkes said he was horrified by the remarks and said the Justice Ministry would look into the matter. "It is too crazy for words," he told Dutch news agency ANP.
Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk agreed:
"How can it be that we have sunk so far in the Netherlands? I am really worried about this," she told Dutch television.
Wilders, whose popularity has soared since he called for a crackdown on Muslim militants following the murder of filmmaker Theo van Gogh this month, has been the subject of several death threats for his views on Islam and immigration.
Wilders is seen as a new Pim Fortuyn, the Dutch maverick killed by an animal rights activist in 2002. Wilders wants to launch a new right-wing party ahead of elections due in 2007 and a recent poll put him ahead of the ruling Christian Democrats.

Imam Ahmad Salam told a news conference on Tuesday he was keen to talk to the minister about integration but said Islam prohibited contact with women outside the immediate family.
Exceptions apply... like if you're killing them for Allah.

The policies of appeasement will eventually fail if we fail in the global war on terror. Once this happens their (Europe’s) problems with radical fundamentalist Moslems will be much greater since they let the situation spiral out of control and allowed these people a foot hold in their country, gain momentum in their movements and build infrastructure/connections.
Ironically those nations with some of the largest potential for problems are those who oppose the war in Iraq and generally don’t want to “rock the boat” to hard. France with nearly approaching 10% (over 5 million) and Germany with (3.4 million) Moslems in their countries only have to gain from us fighting the global war on terrorism. They themselves stay in the background and even render assistance on occasion. Yet never step out in front and offer their nose to get struck.
It’s sad, but the USA is the biggest target since it’s the biggest enemy of these groups (From the Taliban to the Abu Saif group in the Philippines). While these ankle biters do little except complain and avoid any of the cost in political, economic or military aspects, it will be they who in the long run will benefit the most from this campaign.
From the perspective of the Western European, the policies of appeasement will pay great dividends if the US succeeds. If the US while depleting it’s resources in money people and military hardware win this war, the French and Germans will have gained enormously while having done very little. Not a bad deal, if we win. If our policies shift or we loose, the French and Germans are left with a situation where they have huge Moslem population centers in their countries. Will be hated by the fundamentalist for no other reason than they are “infidels”; non believers who in the fundamentalist mind is literally worth being a slave. They are logistically easier to get to in both time and distance. Easier to infiltrate with long unguarded boarders and with large and in part disgruntled Moslem populations within their own boarders they are a ticking time bomb.
If we shall fail, we will still be quite well off. However, in the long run, they will end up with major issues. Madrid, Van Gogh, Munich and several others are quickly pressed aside in the European collective thought. Politically no one wants to touch the issue. It would substantiate our claim which the Germans, French and Belgians deny. But eventually they will be forced to deal with the issue, and although to ignorant to accept it, our failure in the global war on terror will have huge implications for them.

Put simpler, the man who throws the people around him to the alligator so the alligator won't eat him will eventually run out of people. Guess what happens then?
Keep worrying. Perhaps worry will prompt critical thought and, ultimately, understanding.
