You should read the man's confession. He says he was shot at. That's the reason he shot back.

The name-calling part is just part of the color ~

More interesting is the fact that his confession coincides very well with the preliminary forensic analysis of the crime-scene. Let's see if the other witnesses do as well ~ particularly when it comes to the part about who had what guns.

According to Lauren Hesebeck, the only one who had a rifle was Terry Willers. Hesebeck claims that Vang fired first after removing the scope, and Terry Willers returned fire before being hit in the neck. Terry's shot missed and hit the ground about 40 feet behind Vang. (found on page 3)

The ATV angle makes sense. Which movies have we seen that in? The vicious ATV gang is bearing down on our hero trudging through the snow, and they begin circling him. He has no choice but to take them out.

There's a title for this one. Didn't James Bond have such an adventure where, in the end, he skied off the mountain side and opened his chute?

Yes, the range might indicate removal of sights. But if he REALLY felt threatened, would he be that cool under fire?

Vang is ex-military. Depending on what his job & training in the military were, I'd think it is possible that he was that cool under fire.

Vang claims he later encountered two guys on ATVs who had rifles. In one place he says he didn't shoot them. In another place the "witness" says he did shoot them.

Seems to me the Sheriff will be tracking down all the ATV folks in the territory that day seeing if any of them had an encounter with Vang.

One time I simply stepped behind a large granite pillar and crouched down while others coraled the shooter (a Turkish guestworker no less). Another time I hopped in my jeep and drove to the other side of the mountain (this was on the Czech border with West Germany during the Russian invasion in 1968.)

The first "example" is rather vague. The second is, well what do you know, a combat situation. Unless your opinion of an invasion does not include combat or the use of firearms. Well, these people were not in the midst of an invasion, they were basically in their back yard. Who the heck expects to be shot in their back yard? And no, I am not any part of the DU as you have been sounding througout this post.

Totally possible.

Do we know if he's ex-military? (We might, I just haven't seen it.) He certainly doesn't seem to be the ignorant non-english-speaking savage that some portrayed him as initially.

If he was really that cool, then he was "methodical" instead of "berserk". Either way I think the guy is toast.

That bastard just hanged himself with his statement. He must be from a blue state alright. Played the race card immedeately.

And from his own admission he was very efficient in his ability to hit his target. This also indicates premeditation.

It means he is a good shot, this has nothing to do with "intent".

Another thought ~ what if there was a round that winged it's way near Vang, but it came from far away ~ just somebody out shooting that day not caring what he hit.

That's why I don't go out hunting anymore. There are others on these "hunter" threads who have indicated this to be a growing problem.

Read it again. On the bottom of page 5, Vang claims he did not shoot 3 hunters on ATV's (Right after he shot Joey Crotteau in the back)

It is on the top of page 6 where he admitts shooting Allan Laski and Jessica Willers before they could dismount the ATV they were riding.

Well I guess walking up to an unarmed person and shooting them isn't really intent either right? He's guilty by his own admission.

Not impossible but seems like quite a stretch to me...

Isn't Vang from Minnesota and didn't the shooting take place in Wisconsin? Aren't both of these blue states?

NOt to be picky about it, but in the second event the guy doing the shooting was in Czechoslovakia. I was in West Germany. It was not a combat situation since West Germany was not being invaded.

Concerning the first instance I cited, I was in the Bahnhof in Frankfurt Germany having a beer waiting on my train. These fellows at the next table got into a fight and guns were pulled. I immediately stepped behind the granite pillar next to my table and crouched down.

Does that make it seem "less vague" ~ (as if I owed you any explanation for it).

A separate item ~ expectations of being shot in your own backyard ~ you should have high expectations of that happening if your backyard is in an area where people hunt, and it's hunting season, and you yourself are there to hunt. This happens ALL the time.

They had 15 people out there. The odds were good that they might even shoot each other!

That's what I've read in a couple of places--that he's ex-military...don't have a link handy. Early reports, esp. turn out to be inaccurate, so I wouldn't take it to the bank. But, as I recall, he is 36, came to the US when he was twelve, speaks English fluently, is an American citizen & served in the military....according to reports, that is.

Seems that from the reports the area was swarming with hunters on ATVs. Anything is possible, and without a stretch either.

They are. Chris Matthews I had to comment on because he thought (wrongly) that it happened in a red state. And was laughing when he said it.
