If your target is within the range of the scope yes. Most scopes are easily detatchable for this reason. Your able to aim at close range targets with iron sites. The scope is usally used for targets outside of 100 meters.

I read the statement. I will gladly be on the jury, and trip the switch that gives him a little shock. Then I want to kick the stool out from under him and watch the rope get tight around his neck.
I have horses, so we can draw and quarter him too. I game for anything else anyone else can come up with too.
This puke needs to die very slowly, very painfully!!!!!!!!
He kills people in cold blood and then wants to justify it by saying that someone call him a bad name. I do not buy the part about on of his victims shooting at him first, I do not think they would have missed.

I wondered about this myself. I am no hunter but wouldn't it take some time to get a scope off a rifle. Seems more plausible that he took off the scope before someone shot at him. Wouldn't you be a sitting duck in the open while messing around with scope. You think he would have been hit.

Notice that he later confronts, and shoots, a couple of guys with rifles. Where are their weapons? In fact, have they even recovered their bodies?

I wonder if Vang was the only shooter that day.

On Hardball Matthews just fr*gging laughed saying the brawls happen in blue states, and shootings in red states. If I ever met this POS he'd be walking funny for a month.

He ducked. Read his statement very carefully. Sometimes that works. Apparantly the people he shot at forgot to do that.

Although I've never been fired on in a serious combat situation, I have been in places where rounds zinged past me. One time I simply stepped behind a large granite pillar and crouched down while others coraled the shooter (a Turkish guestworker no less). Another time I hopped in my jeep and drove to the other side of the mountain (this was on the Czech border with West Germany during the Russian invasion in 1968.)

When confronted reduce your profile as fast as you can.

I don't think the people shot had enough time to react by even ducking.

Not bloody likely. I'll totally admit that if I was being shot at (not warning shots) I'd totally try to drop anyone I thought might potentially threaten me. But I wouldn't chase them down, and I wouldn't come back for more.

They might have "missed" because they were warning shots.

Please note that I'm NOT AT ALL defending this guy. Regardless of what happened, he chased people down and he came back to get more. Even if it was self-defense at first, he went way above and beyond the pale.

Maybe if your on a battle field you moron. But who expects someone to just turn and start shooting you? And don't start with the "they asked for it by calling him names" BS. You need to readjust your line of sight buddy.

Yes, the range might indicate removal of sights. But if he REALLY felt threatened, would he be that cool under fire?

I mean, that's Clint Eastwood in the bar at the end of THE UNFORGIVEN cool.

And if he's that damn cool and collected, why would he then immediately go berserk and start shooting everyone in sight and chasing them down and coming back for more?

This is just a totally bizarre case, given the "facts" we "know".

The name calling is strictly secondary. If you bothered to read his confession you'd find he said one of them shot at him!

Why do you keep coming up with this name-calling garbage? Do you have some sort of grudge you need to work out? Everybody's been informed about what the guy said, and so far we don't have anything to counter it.

He is justifying his actions on the basis that these people shot at him.

Regardless of what happened, chasing down fleeing targets and returning to the scene to shoot more people isn't going to go over well even if he was truly antagonized and shot at first and felt the need to defend himself.

No it won't but then you have to consider that those folks were on ATV's & Vang was apparently on foot.

Why the "moron" stuff? Are you another DU refugee or what?

I gave you two examples where I was shot at, and neither were on a battlefield yet I found time to duck.

Nail on the head. He didn't feel at all threatened. He probably wasn't even called those names. And from his own admission he was very efficient in his ability to hit his target. This also indicates premeditation. A person who feels threatend would take a couple of cover shots and run, not coldly walk up to an unarmed person and kill shoot them. He's sealed his own fate. Let this guy rot in jail forever.
