Senator Bill Frist's S. 3026 (“Save Our Scouts”)Bill
VOLPAC e-mail ^ | 23 Nov 2004 | Bill Frist

Posted on 11/23/2004 5:08:37 PM PST by SwinneySwitch

E-mail Thanks!Giving From: "Senator Bill Frist"

On Saturday I introduced a bill S. 3026 (“Save Our Scouts”) that I ask you to spread the word about. It reflects good ole commonsense. Last week the Pentagon directed American military bases worldwide to forego officially sponsoring the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). This was in part a response to a lawsuit filed by the ACLU, which accuses the U.S. government of improperly supporting the BSA because “God” is mentioned in the oath.

This is merely the first salvo by the ACLU to end all federal support for the Boy Scouts of America. In their view, where there is government there cannot be faith.

I was a Boy Scout. Harrison, Jonathon, and Bryan were Scouts. The BSA is congressionally chartered. It serves a patriotic, charitable, and educational purpose, and the federal government’s support to the Boy Scouts is embodied in law. The Save Our Scouts bill reaffirms our longstanding commitment to the tradition of scouting by stating that no federal law, rule, regulation, or order shall limit any Federal agency from providing support to the Boy Scouts of America (or the Girl Scouts of America) -- including meetings, jamborees, camporees, or other scouting activities on federal property.

I encourage each and every one of you that believes in Scouting or takes offense at the actions of the ACLU, to write your Senator or Representative urging them to support S. 3026, the Frist “Save Our Scouts” bill.

I leave you with the wise words of George Washington in the first Thanksgiving Proclamation, October 3, 1789.

"Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the Providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor, and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint committee requested me to commend to the people of United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness, now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, Who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or will be."

Karyn and I and our three boys wish you and your family a joyful Thanksgiving.

Bill Frist

Why doesn't the ACLU sue to ban the military because they employ chaplains and hold religious services on base? That's much more "wacko" than just saying "God." Huh, Mr ACLU Girlie Man??

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA -- (Senate - November 20, 2004)

Mr. FRIST. Mr. President, in a bit we will be wrapping up. There is a lot of business that is being tended to and it will probably be 30 minutes or so before we officially wrap up. I thought I would address several issues that have come to my attention over the last several days and cover some of the events that have occurred earlier this week.

The first is an issue that leads from what we learned earlier this week when the Department of Defense warned American military bases worldwide to cease officially sponsoring the BoyScouts of America.

The Department issued its directive in response to a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union. The Illinois chapter of the ACLU accuses the U.S. Government of improperly supporting a group which administers a religious oath. The ACLU's legal attack has forced the Defense Department to suspend its decades long tradition of supportingScouts and it may even prevent Scouts from celebrating their annual jamborees on Defense installations. But it does not stop here...........................[more at link]

The ban of chaplains and religious services is coming.

The purpose of the ACLU is not to stop the Boy Scouts.

They want to stop God!

Great - almost hard to believe - the Senate is actually doing something "good" for the nation!

Where is Rum. on this? I say "name" the lawyers in the Defense Dept. who caved in - and - change the law that made it possible(if there was one)-

Giving money directly to the scouts - so they can aid themselves - and will contact two Senators on this matter -

Thanks for the good news on this by the Leader of the Senate -

Don't think this isn't on the agenda - They're just picking things off one at a time -

Now;s the time to beat them back...

There's no record, yet, of Senate Bill 3026 on www.senate.gov. That VOLPAC website doesn't have anything about it yet either...

2nd surprise of the day concerning BSA. The first surprise was my democratic Senator (Bill Nelson, D-FL) doing something. ( see U.S. Senator Seeks to Assure Boy Scouts of Continued Military Links ). I gotta think this is going to work!

This is Tuesday and if he submitted his bill Saturday why hasn't it been on any news program.

It hasn't been discussed on any talk show. To me this is strange.

So, so, so great - and a Democrat! Nice to see they haven't all fallen under the spell of the Socialist in their party -

They(Democrats) need to re-group and get their party back - long, long, ago - when I first registered - I did so as a Democrat - because they were the party of the people - Shame what has happened to them - and I do hope they can make a come back - by realizing the 'enemy' within - because it appears the Republicans are undergoing the same attack on their party - and it's getting harder and harder to tell friend from foe -

Thanks much for the information - Really great! The attack from the ACLU has got to be stopped - now -
