Why doesn't the ACLU sue to ban the military because they employ chaplains and hold religious services on base? That's much more "wacko" than just saying "God." Huh, Mr ACLU Girlie Man??

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA -- (Senate - November 20, 2004)

Mr. FRIST. Mr. President, in a bit we will be wrapping up. There is a lot of business that is being tended to and it will probably be 30 minutes or so before we officially wrap up. I thought I would address several issues that have come to my attention over the last several days and cover some of the events that have occurred earlier this week.

The first is an issue that leads from what we learned earlier this week when the Department of Defense warned American military bases worldwide to cease officially sponsoring the BoyScouts of America.

The Department issued its directive in response to a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union. The Illinois chapter of the ACLU accuses the U.S. Government of improperly supporting a group which administers a religious oath. The ACLU's legal attack has forced the Defense Department to suspend its decades long tradition of supportingScouts and it may even prevent Scouts from celebrating their annual jamborees on Defense installations. But it does not stop here...........................[more at link]

Great - almost hard to believe - the Senate is actually doing something "good" for the nation!

Where is Rum. on this? I say "name" the lawyers in the Defense Dept. who caved in - and - change the law that made it possible(if there was one)-

Giving money directly to the scouts - so they can aid themselves - and will contact two Senators on this matter -

Thanks for the good news on this by the Leader of the Senate -

There's no record, yet, of Senate Bill 3026 on www.senate.gov. That VOLPAC website doesn't have anything about it yet either...

Thank you, Senator Frist!!

"The BSA is congressionally chartered. It serves a patriotic, charitable, and educational purpose, and the federal government’s support to the Boy Scouts is embodied in law. The Save Our Scouts bill reaffirms our longstanding commitment to the tradition of scouting by stating that no federal law, rule, regulation, or order shall limit any Federal agency from providing support to the Boy Scouts of America (or the Girl Scouts of America) -- including meetings, jamborees, camporees, or other scouting activities on federal property."

I would feel much more comfortable about this if the wording was such that it addressed the heart of the matter. The BSA is not the true target of the ACLU. The real target, as TexasCowboy pointed out, is the protection of God-fearing religion in the United States. That is what the ACLU wants to see eradicated. Protecting the BSA by name is nice, but I would much rather see the whole ACLU anti-God agenda flushed in one fell swoop.
