Say NO To Arnold For Prez (NO FOREIGN-Born Presidents)
Petition Online ^ | 11/23/2004 | Jon Alvarez

Posted on 11/23/2004 11:32:59 AM PST by Jon Alvarez

Like him or not, as Americans we should all stand together to say NO to any change in the US Constitution that would allow foreign-born, naturalized citizens to run for and hold the highest office in this great land...Apparently a movement is underway to change the US Constitution. We must stand up to this and oppose it.

No guys, it was Germany. Adlof Hitler was born in Brannau, Austria in 1885. He was not a natrual-born German, as much as he claimed he was.

Ummm, I'm not sure you got that either of us was being silly (unlike Prime Choice - take a look at post #42). However, the last country with an ehtnic Austrian as its leader, was, in fact, Austria: Heinz Fischer who was born in Graz.

"Last I saw, the U.S. is the only country that people are demanding to permit foreigners to rule. Curiously enough, the U.S. is also the world's only remaining Superpower. "

Foreigners? How do naturalized U.S. citizens qualify as foreigners?

Actually, according to the constitution, he couldn't even be Vice President, because of the succession thing.

How do naturalized U.S. citizens qualify as foreigners?

They are still considered citizens by the nation of their birth.

Look, you can dip a dustbunny in chocolate and call it a Bon-Bon, but it's still a dustbunny. By the same token, someone who spent 30 years in one nation and then emigrated to the U.S. and lived just 20 years here is still a citizen of the other nation first and foremost, no matter how much apologia you coat it with.

I'm Hispanic, too...

I like Arnold. Your assumption is...wrong, as most assumptions are. I do, however, feel strongly about protecting our great country. Let Arnold's CHILDREN run for Prez.

If there is one thing this election proved is that the majority sees through double talk and innuendos that are designed to deceive US. I don't think that strategy even if employed, would do much good.

A person can be elected president of the U.S. if they were born in the U.S. and reached the age of 35. Why should someone who has lived in the U.S. for only 35 years have more right to run for president than someone who was born in another country, moved to the U.S. at age 20, lived here for 40 years and ran for president at age 60?

No, he could be Vice President, just like Clinton. The only important thing is that he couldn't be the President elected . This is the mainstream opinion among the constitutionalists.

That's just the way the Founding Fathers made it...and I happen to think they were wise for it. Those who have no attachments or loyalties to other nations are best suited to serve in the highest office of this nation. Those who are born elsewhere will naturally have divided loyalties. That cannot stand.

Don't be so eager to sell our country out for the sake of political correctness. In case you haven't noticed, no other nation on Earth allows foreign-borns to rule their land. Why should the U.S. be any exception?

I'm not sure the founders were being all that lofty. I believe this clause was added in order to keep Alexander Hamilton from becoming president.

You may well be correct. I was surprised at how high a % of Americans oppose the idea. My point was that this would be the ONLY possible strategy to sell it..

It does not take a person with a degree in political science to understand that every major power on the planet would begin developing and supporting "their" candidate for office. With the power of raw cash we could easily end up with a President who was loyal, not to the US, but to the foreign country that got him elected.

Bad idea. Arnie is no founding father.

So Ah-Nold can't be President, but a child born to illegal aliens can be? Hmmmm.

Nothing against Arnie but he is looking after his own best interest and not for the country. Can't he see how bad it would be to amend the consititution for him.

The sheer and utter lack of response I get after I challenge anyone to provide a list of nations that allow foreign-borns to run for their highest office.

I don't like the idea of the constitutional change either.

Also, Arnold was a non starter for me after he said "The children have first dibs on the Treasury" when he was running for CA Governor. That's dangerous thinking in my opinion.
