Mexico, U.S. reach accord on migrants' Social Security

QUITO, Ecuador Mexico and Washington agreed to introduce similar legislative initiatives whereby Mexican workers who paid into Social Security in the United States will be refunded their contributions when they return to their homeland, President Vicente Fox said here Monday.

"The initiatives entail the recognition of all those (Mexicans) who have worked in the United States legally or otherwise, so they will have the right to the savings they accumulated while working in the neighboring country," said Fox, who is visiting Ecuador.

During a news conference with Mexican journalists accompanying him on his travels, Fox announced that he and U.S. President George W. Bush agreed to simultaneously introduce in their respective Congresses what he dubbed the "Pay in Full" program initiatives.

Fox and Bush met in Santiago during the weekend summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

During their meeting, Fox said, the two leaders made "very valuable" advances in talks on a guest worker program for Mexicans in the United States.

"Where does it say they have to be old, and how do you know it isn't a lump sum?"

Because you have to be old to get Social Security retirement funds, and both Mexico and the U.S. pay out monthly, not in lottery lump sums (with some exceptions for mental retardation, etc.). Also, note that the article says that they have to have first paid in to Social Security. Most illegals are paid in cash, and make no such payments to our Social Security Administration.

So is this latest *reward* for mexicans only ?? Or does everyone get their reward for working here "legally or otherwise".

It doesn't sound like it from this paragraph:

Then those old, retired Mexicans are going to be making lots of cross-border trips in your world...as Social Security pays out monthly, not in lottery lump sums...

Are you serious? This is the information age baby!

Just have those checks direct deposited in the Citibank, Wells Fargo, or BofA in Mexico and use your Visa Check card in the U.S.

If they paid into SS using their own SS#, and all they get back is what they paid in, then I don't have a particular problem with this. So long as they are not on SS benefits in perpetuity, and only receive the $ they paid in ... OK. I can live with it. I just wish the government would send me in one lump sum all the money I have paid in to SS. I could put that money to better use than the government.

When in hell are we going to get a conservative candidate that will put Americans, and our interest first?

No more illegal alien apologist from Texas!

Yessirree, this sounds like a real "conservative" initiative: social welfare money for foreign criminals. If it passes, the stampede can only accelerate. And the bankrupt Social Security IOU pile will get worse.

Bush needs to be Impeached. He works for Mexico...it cannot be any clearer.

Or otherwise? WTF? You should lose all benefits for being in this country illegally. You don't get to keep the fruits of illegal activity.

Good, give them their savings, deduct any government services received by them or their family, deport them and identify the lawbreaking employers for fines.

Works for me.

I'd love to have that deal, how do I get it?

Just give me all my money back, you can keep the interest, and we'll call it all square.

The congress will have something to say about this, and the House especially will not be kind to this type of crap being peddled.

Mark my words, this will happen.

Our Constitution states that we shall have no taxation without representation.

Before too long this will be used as an argument to give these SS tax paying 'visiting workers' a say in our elections.

Just watch.

To understand why this will break Social Security in five years instead of 20, please read Social Security "Totalization": Examining a Lopsided Agreement with Mexico. For instance, Mexico's system only covers 40% of it's workforce and they don't vest until they've worked 24 years. The US system covers 97% of the workforce and vests after 10 years. And what about the disability and Medicare they'll be eligible for? This is a disaster.

If we cheat on our taxes, and get caught, are we able to still keep what we evaded paying?

Whne will the Bushes wake up and stop this osculation of Mr. Fox's derriere????

Suppose Joe Blow works in the U.S. most of his life, then decides to pack it up, renounce his U.S. citizenship, and move to, say Ireland.

Will Socialist Security give him back HIS deductions?

What about "guest" workers from other countries who bug out after working here a few years??

TANCREDO in 2008!!!!

"Mexican workers who paid into Social Security in the United States will be refunded their contributions when they return to their homeland"

LOL! Unless they're legalized and eventually given green cards.

Illegal aliens work at stolen jobs. Their employment and wages are part of a criminal tresspass, and should be forfeit. This legislation would reward illegal aliens, and will encourage more of them if it passes.
