Melee in Chile seen as 'big deal'
Washington Times ^ | 11/23/04 | Jerry Seper and Bill Sammon

Posted on 11/22/2004 9:40:22 PM PST by kattracks

White House officials were still shaking their heads in disbelief yesterday that President Bush personally had to rescue a U.S. Secret Service agent from angry Chilean security officials Saturday night.
"This is a pretty big deal," said a senior White House official, who called the incident a "melee."

"I mean, the guy who was supposed to be guarded had to rescue the guy who was supposed to be guarding him."
The official expressed astonishment that Chilean security officials had stopped the No. 2 agent on Mr. Bush's security detail from accompanying the president into a meeting with another world leader, an unprecedented public breach of security arrangements agreed upon in advance.

In contrast to Chile, which rejected Secret Service protocols, Colombia ceded control of 15,000 of its troops to the United States when Mr. Bush visited there yesterday. Colombian President Alvaro Uribe also agreed to allow heavily armed U.S. Navy forces to patrol the waters around Cartegena in rubber boats.

They probably said to themselves: "I wish our President had the huevos that this guy does."

Uh, when there are quotes around something and then comments following that are not in quotes, that is something that should have tipped you off. Everyone else who responded got it, including kattracks. There was no "misunderstanding." You started it, clearly, and it is childish for you to continue insulting someone as if it is their fault you made false allegations after you realize you were wrong.

>>Kills me how they think "Cowboy" is a derogatory term<<

Why? Don't you understand that cowboys have a hard time reading other people rulebooks. That's why we tend to make our own trails in life.

The President showed the world that he is a cowboy. He stepped in and handled a problem that isn't even written in the rulebooks.

All the other world leaders would have left the problem to their ranking lower staff. Not ours!

Interesting. It certainly could happen I suppose and I do take these kind of warnings seriously.

To get an agent close enough to actually harm the President, there would have to be more than one involved, I would think. Probably some level of leadership of the USSS also, in order to make the assignments that would be needed in order to put people in place?

It would be interesting to know something about the leadership and hierarchy over there.

The backing of a rich man and the shoes is odd isn't it? (I wonder what the name Soros means?)

This particular agent, Nick Trotta is someone I am comfortable with. Like I said in other posts, I have been watching this one for about a year.

I have been studying his face and mannerisms intently for an entire year. Exactly one year in fact, because it was during the visit to Baghdad last year that I first noticed him.

I really couldn't tell you why he stands out to me, but he does.

I just have felt very drawn to him. Not an attraction, or anything. I don't know how to explain it.

Did you see this information about him on the mega thread? I saw it for the first time when it was posted there.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1284927/posts?page=1205#1205

When you get a chance, be sure and read the entire thing.

This guy protected Reagan in his last term and protected the former President Bush. He also protected then Governor Bush during the 2000 campaign.

In 2003 he was sent back to the White House to protect President Bush.

He talks very openly about his faith and how important it is in his life. There are many, many references to his faith and God in there.

Like I said, he has always made me feel very reassured about the President's safety.

This was before I read the article about him. Now I am even more comfortable with him.

It is striking to me that he has protected those three particular Presidents. God's hand? I tend to think so.

So, all of that to say that perhaps God has Nick in place to thwart a scheme like that. I definitely believe that President Bush has God's favor.

I do believe that prophesy gives us the opportunity to pray and ask God to intervene. So I will definitely increase my prayers for the President and specifically in this area. I'm glad you posted that.

Speaking of prophesy, did you read through all of this.....

I would be interested in your comments about the first entry. There are alot of very interesting things in there. Maybe private message in order to not change the focus of this thread?

I used to subscribe to the Elijah list, but I didn't like all the emails trying to get me to buy something. Does that happen with the one you are subscribed to?

It was hilarious. Clinton came here in '99, and half of the people demonstrating against him were local hard left denouncing "Yankee imperialism" and the other half were travelling Freeper-alike Americans calling him a rapist.

In fact, I think we weren't willing to allow armed USSS agents here back in 1996, explicitly saying no allowance would be given even if Clinton came. Our politicians and public figures have an annoying habit of ignoring the US as if you were Austria - far away, (to NZ) inconsequential. The last sitting US President to pay an official visit to NZ before Clinton was LBJ and he was the first.

I wholesale agree.

Will try to check those threads out tonight.

Don't know about meaning of "Soros" other than evil because of his values.

INTENSELY agree about prayers and have no trouble agreeing about the Sec Serv agent you describe.

I also strongly agree about the Elijah List. Why I stopped subscribing. Shulz ABSOLUTELY REFUSED to change it. I confronted him several times about the brazen heavy handed advertising. He defended it by saying he supported several single mom's. It still felt and smelled as brazen commercialism very unseemly in the virtual 'temple' it seemed to me. Even the PRINTER FRIENDLY version could leave one with 2-4 pages of wasted paper and ink for advertising and 2-3 pages of doc. GRRR.

Anyway--Thanks tons for your kind reply. I just much agree.

Not to break out the tin foil, but did you ever think that this might have been a precursor to an assassination attempt on the President?

That's not out of the realm of possibilities...

But, but....Clinton just scathingly told Peter Jennings that he was even MORE loved by the international community at the end of his terms! ;^)

You may be aware of this thread:

I haven't been on that thread, but it appears an interesting one. I'll check it out.

I truly believe George W. Bush has been sent to us as a bellwether. Will we follow his inspired leadership? In fact, can our unwavering support inspire him to accomplish even greater things?

The powers of darkness set against him are formidable, but if we as a nation will ask for God's hand to protect our president, NO forces of evil can prevail. Will we follow?

...because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.

And 'Wolfstar' are you an astronomy buff or just a coincidence in a 'quantum' universe?

LOL! While not an astronomy buff, per se, if you can judge by my screen name, I do love star symbols. Maybe that makes me an honorary member of a "quantum" universe?!

(PS: Sorry for getting back to you only this morning, but I wasn't online yesterday evening.)

Good day, texasflower. Please let me be among the first to wish you and yours a very happy Thanksgiving. Same to you, quantim, and FReepers everywhere.

If there is no soul-searching and detailed review happening at Secret Service HQ over what occurred in Chile, I would be both surprised and deeply disappointed. It is entirely possible to simultaneously applaud the President for his willingness to assist his team while at the same time being shocked at GWB's and his wife's utter vulnerability during those moments.

In the end, it does not matter who was at fault for the dust up. What matters is that the presidential protection mandated by the laws of the United States failed completely. Although Secret Service procedures are not made public, so we will never know what SS higher ups are doing about this matter, we in the public should still hold their feet to the fire as we do other parts of the government.

Thanks, Quix. Sorry I didn't respond yesterday, but wasn't online after about 6:00pm. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. After the holiday, I plan to find out which House and Senate committees have oversight responsibility for the Secret Service, and will call them with my concerns.
