TRENTON, N.J. -- With tears running down his face, a Trenton father told NBC 10 News about his encounter with four gunmen.

Robert O'Neal said the men robbed him and threatened his two teenage daughters Monday night outside his house on Route 29 in Trenton.

Slideshow: Dad Chases Robbers Police said the gunmen pulled out pistols and took $1,500 and credit cards from O'Neal. When they took off, O'Neal got in his car and chased them. O'Neal said he didn't chase the men because of the money. He chased them because they threatened his family.

"He put a gun in my face, threatened to kill me or rape my daughters. I wanted to get my property back. They knew where I lived. I was afraid they were going to come back and hurt my kids," O'Neal said.

The suspects took off in a station wagon and O'Neal followed so he could get the car's license number. The robbers started shooting at O'Neal's vehicle and O'Neal rammed their car.

"I didn't want them to get away. This happens all the time, and all the time they get away," O'Neal said.

Police believe O'Neal accidentally ran over and killed one of the suspects. Two other suspects are under arrest -- Kyle Gibson, 19, and a 15-year-old. One gunman is still on the loose.

O'Neal said that his daughters are very distraught. He said that he is a single parent and has raised his children by himself for 15 years.

"Now I've lost our only means of transportation. How am I going to get back and forth to work? But (at least) my family is safe," O'Neal said.

If someone threatened my daughters like that they would be taking the dirt-nap too. That guy did what any good father would do. Good riddance to the bad guys!

Good for him! I hope the wretched PC types don't arrest him for it.

Ha ha, he's sorry he doesn't have transportation to work to support his family (2 daughters, single dad)

He's not upset he rammed their car and ran the guy over. Although he does say he didn't mean to.

THIS is why an armed public is a safe public.....Police Departments only do the PAPERWORK afterwards, is what I tell family and friends.

I am having trouble piecing together how this all went down. The guy chases the station wagon in order to get close enough to read the license, the station wagon occupants begin shooting at him, and he runs one of the occupants over? Does he have 20/2000 vision?

I think a lot of people on FR will cheer for this guy and rejoice in the death of the bad guy. I do. But I can understand how, even in the face of these terrible threats, this man would be distraught at having taken a life. I hope this doesn't haunt him.

I think you're wrong about him only caring about his car.

He is a good man...a good dad and a good citizen...

It is too bad he didnt have at least a shotgun handy

I cannot blame him for being worried that they knew where he lived and might come back and make good on their threats to his daughters

It is too bad the other perps lived..imo

God bless Him watch over his family...

Probably true. I wouldn't want less than $130K in the budget to defend against the charges that will be brought.

This man will probably be ruined by the system. I hope he gets to keep custody of his kids. And stays out of jail. Faint hope, but hope and prayers nevertheless.

It's probably something really great about this poor man, that the lib reporter didn't put in the story because he didn't want him to look like a hero. Makes the story look choppy--on the other hand, maybe a liberal editor cut a straight news story up.

It's obviously missing several important explanatory sentences.
