Rochester (AP) Police say a woman went to a Beaver County police station and admitted fatally shooting her husband after he threatened to kill their pets.

Elsie Kost was charged yesterday with homicide in the death of her husband Edward. Police say Edward Kost was killed November 16th but authorities didn't find out about the shooting until Elsie Kost confessed to shooting him and putting his body in cistern on their property.

Elsie Kost had told others her husband was away at a hunting camp. But New Sewickley police say she told her daughter about the shooting yesterday and they decided to go to police.

Kost told authorities she had an argument with her husband and that he pushed and shoved her. Police say Edward Kost had threatened to shoot some of the family pets.

Authorities recovered Edward Kost's body yesterday.

An autopsy was planned for sometime today

Scott Peterson's attorney chose the wrong defense. I guess killing one's spouse to protect a pet is de rigour.

There is a couple on this thread. Beyond the sea for sure.

I guess republican4ever thinks insulting hunters by saying they have no regard for life is a kind word. I would say those who condone killing a man for pushing you (if thats even true) or threatening your dog has no regard for life.

Actually, in that case, she wouldn't have needed the cistern. Just toss the body in the pen. Presto! No evidence.

What. The. Hell.

Did somebody leave the door open and let a bunch of tree huggers in here? This thread is the most LIBERAL, wanker-populated thing I've seen on FR to date. For crying out loud, all you damn animal worshippers are putting Fifi above a human being???

You try to justify it by hoping he made other threats against her and that he's 'probably' a serial killer wannabe??

Holy...

I think some here are launching on emotion and a predisposed fantasy of "previous behaviour". .......... Everyone, Get yourselves in control!

It's just speculation. You may want to calm down and get off your judgemental perch.

Personally, Im 58 years old, and in all my years nearly every person (thank God there were only a few) I knew who threatened to kill pets or killed pets deserved to be good and dead themselves!

Just an observance.

None required on your part. I just didn't want you to get the impression that your grave insult was lost on me, you useless liberal dog (dog probably being a complement in your eyes)

As it was noted before, some of us think there was more that a mere first time threat here against the woman... maybe not. But, if the man indeed threatened her, should she have waited until he actually tried to kill her?
As for my opinion on hunting, I clarified it earlier.

I'm with you on this one. I know I'll get flamed, but no way is this murder justified.

And I'm a pet owner and animal lover! (Check my profile page for my cat's pic).

You are assuming it was murder. You know what they say about "assuming".

Because you have only been here just over a month (unless you are a previouslly banned poster), I'll tell you this: many FReepers have pets. Many FReepers regard their pets as family members. FReepers aren't PETA activists. But those that are trying to live up to the liberal stereotype of conservatives like to call them that.

Why does everyone assume she is telling the truth. She's an admitted murderer, why not a liar? Maybe she spent the last six days coming up with a PC story she thought would be a good defense.

Actually we're talking about a CORPSE here. I do animal rescue 24/7. My daughter and I have rescued and rehabilitated hundreds of dogs, birds, guinea pigs, turtles, etc. I wouldn't kill anyone for threatening an animal. That's just over the edge.

No offense intended.....

Typically, hunters are true appreciators of wildlife...one of the reasons we go hunting is to give us an excuse to get out into the wild...in fact, we are normally more aware of the equation between food and life than most people...
