The Israeli Air Force reported Monday that a swarm of locusts, some 10 kilometers length, is currently making its way from the Sinai Pennisular toward Israel. The swarm was picked up by an Air Force radar in the south of the country.
The information was relayed to the head of the Ramat Hanegev Regional Council's agricultural committee, Yaakov Moskovitz, who said that the swarm was flying at a high altitude and that there was no indication that it was about to make landfall.
"The weather is working in our favor," said Moskovitz. "As long as it stays cold the locusts won't want to feed. In any case, we have a crop-spraying plane ready and waiting and we will try and destroy them before they can do any damage."
Local farmers have been asked to report any sitings of locusts. Hundreds of farmers in the south began spraying insecticide on their crops early Monday, in a bid to stop the millions of locusts swarming into the country.
The insects ate their way through parts of Eilat on Sunday and threatened the potato crop in the Western Negev's Shalom region.
"Our primary mission is to block the advance of the locust swarms toward the center of the country and to prevent conditions conducive to their laying eggs and raising a second generation," Dr. Zvi Klein of the Plant Protection and Inspection Services said Sunday.
The authorities recruited large teams of exterminators to work on the ground, backed by crop-dusters, from 4:30 A.M. until nightfall. Hundreds of farmers had also volunteered their help, Klein said.
The palies grew wings? That's not good.
lol
Better put some screens over the engine intakes...
Actually I got scared at first moment- I thought its an enemy air attack from Egypt lol
Poor sentence structure, else we have locusts, some 10 kilometers in length! ("Call Godzirra!")
Great Jumpin' Jehosophat! Never heard tell of a bug that big!
All you need is an airplane with a REALLY big windshield.
In case of a locust swarm, warm up your frying pan or wok. I've eaten locusts in Thailand...they're very tasty, especially with some hot sauce.
I think were safe in assuming that English is not IAFThunders native tongue (probably something E.European or Hebrew) so I let that gaff slide.(10 km, I know I know...damn!)

We're also safe in assuming that I just double-posted.
When I saw the title, that's the first thing I thought too . . .
Actually its an article of Haaretz you my click on the link above!
They probably meant that the swarm was 10km long and not that a single bug was a 10km long!
I wonder how tainted the fish will get from ingesting a bazillion dead locusts when they fall into the Med from airborne pesticide spraying?
I wonder an F-15I against a locaut who would win?
Just for you!
Happy Thanksgiving! :-)

I'm just giving you a hard time!:)
Just mount a large can of Raid (insecticide) onto the nose of an AIM-120 AMRAAM missile and the F-15I win the Beyond Visual Range engagement every time! ;)
