~ MILITARY SHORT SPEAK ~ |
|
The military seems to have a language of its own, with many terms, acronyms, initialisms and abbreviations that aren't generally used in the "civilian world." What is an acronym? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words. It is spoken as one word. What is an initialism? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words, but each letter is spoken separately. What is an abbreviation? It is a shortened version of a word. What is Short Speak? It is any and all of the above. Want to know what they are talking about? Read on... |

You are way to kind to me Ma.
Today's lesson report: We talked about Thanksgiving and the importance of being thankful for what we have- and not worrying about what we don't have- or what other have. We made our annual "Thanksgiving tree". We make a big cut our of a tree and then make separate leaves. When someone comes over we ask them to write what they are Thankful for on a leaf and then we put it on our tree.
It is fun to watch the tree fill up.
Jimmy did some writing practice with his new Robot pencil and I quizzed him on his ability to use a clock we made. We hung a new decorative American flag in our house and we looked at my Great Grandfather's Veterans of Foreign Wars hat and talked about our relatives who were Veterans. We also read Sam the Minute man AGAIN! And talked about our ancestors who were in the Sudbury militia and why they were called Minute men. We had a game to see how long it would take us to get our shoes on and get our mock weapons together.... ( way over a min!!!)
We also had soccer club meeting and I had to get our lesson ready for Wends. Junior Explores Club. We are making canoes out of birch logs and figuring out how to make them float.

I usually think a great deal about what Dr. Krauthammer writes.
But what Krauthammer says in his new column makes no sense to me at all.
