HUNTER GOES BERZERK IN WISCONSIN; AT LEAST FIVE DEAD
Drudge Report ^

Posted on 11/21/2004 4:15:12 PM PST by Jotmo

EXELAND, Wis. - Five people are dead and three injured in a shooting incident that apparently began over a hunting dispute in western Wisconsin.

The confrontation began around noon in a rural area southwestern Sawyer County. Authorities said a hunting party returning to their deer shack reported seeing a hunter unknown to them occupying their tree stand. That led to a shooting.

One of the shooting victims used a walkie talkie to radio back to the deer shack for help. When the victim's hunting partners came to the scene, they were also shot.

Sawyer County was in a virtual lockdown as authorities searched for the gunman. One suspect was eventually taken into custody around 5:15 p.m.

The suspect's name has not been released.

Officials at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake said they have treated at least three gunshot victims. They said one of the victims was transported to a hospital in Marshfield, WI. Another victim is in critical condition and is undergoing surgery. The third victim is in fair condition in the intensive care unit.

A SKS is a rather unlikley gun as far as hunting goes.

Actually, no, they're very effective on whitetails out to about 200 yards, provided they're fed good soft-point ammunition. And they'll work in darn near any weather conditions, which makes 'em very popular up here.

For the most part, they're a very welcome addition to Wisconsin. Very hardworking and intelligent. This guy, unfortunately, had some major issues.

No offense, but the Hmong are here because they're refugees. They fought along side of us in Vietnam. This is much different from some random Mexican who swam the Rio to get here.

Aren't Hmong related to the Montangards or 'yards as we used to call them? Fierce warriors, IMHO.

I made a trade a few months ago that netted one. Didn't really want it but it essentially came for free. Figured on just trading it off later. Maybe I'll have to give it a second look.

As I understand it, the reason that many of the Hmong are Dem is because of Sen. Wellstone. He was sort of their Congressional caretaker, always lending them an ear. They got connected to the party that way.

Here is a good pic of a SKS semi-auto rifle for those of you unfamiliar with this firearm. Holds ten rounds. Effective range out to 350-400 yards. Some have been converted to take 30 round magazines, but that conversion is relatively uncommon.

The strangest"hunting" I ever witnessed was in Michigan, between Holland and Saugatuck in 1972. There was snow on the ground and commuter traffic on the freeway was slowed a bit by congestion. The land is quite flat and very few trees. Something apparently moved in the distance and a number of cars braked suddenly causing the whole traffic stream to stop. A half a dozen guys get out of their cars with long guns and started firing across the field. After a shot or two from each they all got back in their cars and traffic started up again. I had a very poor opinion of Michigan sportsmen types for years but have been assured by a number of people who have lived their that that is NOT a normal event in Michigan.

Just another noble visitor to our shores, seeking a better life for his family and doing the work that real Americans prefer not to do.

Hey, man. You're talking about my ancestors..........the SWEDES.

And yours too. In case you haven't studied your American history, we're ALL descended from what you cynically call 'noble visitors' seeking better lives for their families.

The key is to load it with good ammo. The Chinese FMJ ball ammo that you can't get anymore was quite accurate and very cheap. Good American-made ammo (e.g., Federal) is not at all cheap, but more accurate than a Winchester 94 or Marlin 336 shooting most brands of .30-30. The Russian-made "Wolf" ammo is absolute crap and a complete waste of money, no matter how cheap you buy it.

But now it is being reported that one of them is fighting and killing us in the US.

The only thing I tried was that russian bulk ammo that comes in the 300 round battle packs. It didn't impress me with it's acuracy. It's pretty good in my mini-14 and very good in my Rem model 700 in .308, Which ammo do you suggest for it? It's a norinco but it appears to be a machined receiver.
