The theory of multiculturalism holds that no culture is superior to any other culture. As long as people practice tolerance, this theory goes, different cultures can live together side by side. But what if intolerance itself is part of one of the cultures?
That question has been answered for all eternity by a young citizen of Holland by the name of Mohammed Bouyeri. Bouyeri is a 26-year-old native of Holland who is of Moroccan descent. He is of the Muslim faith. The strict interpretation of that faith holds that those who say certain things that offend the faithful must be killed. So on the morning of Nov. 2, Bouyeri armed himself with a gun and a knife and set out through the streets of Amsterdam to track down a man who had said such things.

At the same time, Theo van Gogh was bicycling through the streets of that most liberal city on Earth, home to hashish houses and legalized prostitution. Van Gogh, a distant relative of the painter of that surname, is a filmmaker. One of his recent films illustrated the way in which women are treated in the Muslim world. Various imams in Holland's Muslim community had criticized the film and called for its makers to be killed.
The 26-year-old Bouyeri intercepted van Gogh along his route, the police later reported. He shot him six times. He then slit his throat, nearly beheading him. Bouyeri then used the knife to pin a note to van Gogh's chest. The note contained threats to kill several other Dutch political figures who had been critical of the Muslim community.
The assassination set off waves of violence in normally placid Holland. Mosques were firebombed. Churches were firebombed in return.

civil war will break out in EU soon .... everyone is waking up...... we need to help them figure it out ...
It's gut-check time for Europe. What are you?
Um . . . no. Multiculturalism means one should critique one's own culture mercilessly while celebrating and apologizing for the cultures of "others," even if that culture is more regressive than one's own.
Good article, some insight from Evans-Pritchard I haven't seen elsewhere. Good post!
Read the whole thing folks.
Europe is in serious, serious trouble. This is just the beginning. To wit:
Europe has a huge Muslim population. Moreover, that Muslim population is growing by both immigration and birth rates. (Native European birth rates are below the maintenance level; the Muslim fertility rate is growing). As the Muslim population grows, these problems can only be exacerbated.
Europe is ill-equiped to deal with internal violence. Their liberal / socialist societies have preached "tollerance" for so long, that they will tollerate violence against their own culture. Their proper response will be sufficiently delayed that a great deal of damage will have already been done by the time they respond properly.
Europe has disarmed its citizenry. They do not have a 2nd Ammendment. Their citizens are defenseless.
Europe has a socialist economy which is under severe strain. Moreover, its only source of strength has been exports to the US market. With the advent of the strong Euro currency, those exports are becoming expensive. Moreover, US imports are becoming cheaper. Their economy cannot sustain the exports and this will further damage it. A weakened economy in a socialist environment has a positive feedback element: more people unemployed mean more social benefits ==> more taxes or deficits ==> a further weakened economy. A weak economy will exacerbate the racial tensions between the Muslim and native communities.
Many of us thoroughly loathe Europe because of its behavior toward the US.
Well, they will have done it to themselves, and we can sit back and enjoy. Schadenfreude.
Tolerance is really only cultural pluralism - something unique to the Western world since the time of Rome. It is a purely Western invention, based upon respect for the individual and the rule of law.
It's obvious that the apes who inhabit our universities think that cultural pluralism is a given, rather than an exception. They are, and remain, historically and culturally ignorant pedants and fools.
I reject moral relativism, thus I define multiculturalism as a pile of intellectual manure.
Let Europe go it alone this time. Chirac wants power? Let him lead the charge.
Not sure what wars between the races or religions have to do with multiculturalism?
"Let Europe go it alone this time" I'm with you. Sick and tired of bailing Europe's butt out, and then getting stabbed in the back.
The problem is, Europe will go to the other extreme, they will once again embrace Fascism to take care of the problem.
they are waking up to the civil war that is coming .. and he already is on the march.... the rest of the world will unite againist us..... so whats new..... well this time it will be folks in our hemisphere.... like mexico and canada.
Don't worry... there are enough Europeans getting extremely pissed with the multicultural status quo. Words are getting louder and angrier. Anti-islamic political parties will certainly gain substantial votes throughout Europe.
Some day the West might wake up and realize that Islam is not just a religion. It is a way or life and an idealogy more dangerous than Communism ever was.
Indeed.
Looks like I can't enjoy their implosion.
Da**
it is a blood clut that is evil..... has the mark of the devil...
That is because multiculturalism like its pal Political Correctness is a social extension of a dictatorial socialistic system, and without the strong man clamping down on the citizenry, this type of conflict will lead to open civil war. Europe now must choose between democracy where all intolerant religions are banned or a dictator who will impose islamic law on the whole population. How's that for a choice? Of course, the first step in clamping down on Islam will lead to immediate retaliation. Likewise, succuming to Islamic law has its drawbacks in the loss of freedom that will follow. For once, I am glad to see Europe facing this first, it will be a good eye opener for the left over here.
