President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.

Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.

None of the incident yet.

This is In this image taken from pool television, President Bush (news - web sites) poses with first lady Laura Bush, second from right, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos, left, and his wife Luisa Duran prior to a commotion involving a Bush's security detail. Bush turned back after noticing a commotion apparently when one of his secret service agents was prevented by Chilean police from entering the former Mapocho Train Station where leaders of the 21-member APEC (news - web sites) are attending a formal dinner Saturday Nov. 20, 2004 in Santiago, Chile. The Secret Service (news - web sites) agent was later allowed inside. (AP Photo/PoolTV

Here's one more pic but nothing with "W" in it yet...

Folks, this is scary.

Remember, these clowns (the foreign security agents, not our Secret Service guys) carry guns. Remember also that it was Indira Ghandi's own security detail that assassinated her.

The President needs to start traveling, at least in foreign countries (including visiting the UN), with a Marine Expeditionary Unit along for the trip (probably does that already), but also a fully loaded out platoon in close attendance.

Screw the sensitivities of the so called "allies." FDR didn't travel anywhere, even in the US, without a rather large contingent of regular army during WW2. This is WW4 and we better not forget it, or the fact that its not as easy to tell the good guys from the bad right about now.

I'm telling you, I absolutely love this guy. It's unbelievable the resolve, sturdiness, maturity, and I won't even mention the intelligence he demonstrates.

Ya think Bush brought an extra can of SS WhoopAss with him on this trip!?

At what point do the SS agents have to conclude that the Pesident is in danger because they are prevented from protecting him. They may have been seconds away from drawing their firearms.

You're right. But its not that he obviously loves our country. I think he shows that he cares about his wife, his daughters and the rest of his family. He cares about PEOPLE. I've posted here before on other threads that G.W. is the type of man that would be comfortable sitting in a diner conversing with people there. He is the type of man that I could sit on a park bench with and talk about anything to. I can't think of a Demorat - with the possible exception of Zell Miller that I could do that with. I don't agree with G.W. on everything (most especially immigration) but I am so happy and proud that he is OUR President.

For some reason this makes me smile ... I guess the idea of the Prez bailing out a Secret Service agent is just comical.

Me too, but I'll bet the Secret Service would do anything for him.

Sure beats a Klinton or a Kerry, who would be kissing the feet of the Chilean president and promising to have his agent fired for not being a good little bag boy.

I agree with ya. And you know our Marines would deem it a high honor to do so.

Rumor has it that when he's at home, he will go to the local cafe for a meal, sit down, and actually talk with people...

The Democrats would have an Encounter Session. Our President would throw down.

I saw video of this on Fox and he did turn around and went back into a crowd at the entrance to the building to help the SS guy. It was GREAT but I admit it was a bit scary, but then I always worry about the safety of our President in foreign countries.

Way to go, Dubya!
