President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.
Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.
Reminds me of that t-shirt "GOP Goon...W stands for whoop ass". I have the link somewhere. I'll dig it up.
on drudge report link as well.
No, but after this incident, it can't be soon enough to suit me.
Thanksgiving is also my birthday this year, so I'll just dream on...and you're welcome to come along for the ride.
Here we are at our last family gathering discussing the stuffing ingredients (don't get excited...notice the waxy glow on W.)
I'll leave an empty chair for him or Elijah.
His Thanksgiving visit to our guys in Iraq is something I'll never forget. I even have a Dem friend who said she was very moved by it. So I asked her recently who she voted for and she said President Bush. I asked her why - she lives in Brooklyn right across the river from Manhattan - and she said 9/11 was so important and listened to Kerry's "crap about involving the U.N. before we took action" and that was it.
Have you ever been to huntsville before? You are going to love it. I was born and raised in North Alabama and it is a pretty area. If you can go to the Space and Rocket center. I hope you have fun!
Back when Clinton was in power there were contemplations from some in the New Zealand Police that all US Secret Service agents must not carry arms when they protect Clinton if he visit NZ. "Our laws are that no weapons are to be carried by foreign bodyguards when in New Zealand. There will be no exception to whoever."
But of course things changed when Clinton eventually did make a formal visit in 1999 (for the APEC summit in Auckland) - an amendment was passed in 1998 in Parliament. I think the USSS agents were armed but not publicly mentioned so as not to upset New Zealanders. But I sensed some NZ Police members aren't happy about the arrgangement with the USSS agents - for long the NZP Police's diplomatic protection squad was responsible for visiting foreign heads of states' safety, and Australian Prime Ministers' personal bodyguards were not armed whenever an Australian PM visits here.
I think this is all due to a communication breakdown. Somebody, either the SS or Chilean security, failed to tell the guard at the door that the SS agent would be accompanying the president inside the building. No matter where the failure occurred, the SS is probably undergoing a serious grilling at this very moment, since they're the ones ultimately responsible for the president's safety.
Do you really think these "people" want Cheney?
This is a stand-up guy and one cool customer. Remember in one of the Bush/Gore debates when Algore walked right up to him almost getting in his face? He looked at the audience, made a funny little face and chuckled as though to say "Does this guy think he's intimidating me?"
That's the look of a woman who truly loves her husband.
In the words of Monty Hall, Let's Make a Deal!
;-)
Nice work, Dio. You kick butt on that sort of thing. Pat yourself on the back, you rock.
However this whole thing is explained, whatever blame is placed (if it is), one thing still stands out -----President Bush saw a situation and he didn't hesitate to correct it!!!!
God bless that man!!
Wonder how that would look on your resume -- decked by the President of the United States of America. LOL!
True. But I bet they learn pretty darn quick!
My guess (hope) is that a few of them had a little 'talking to' tonight!
President Bush may have prevented his own assassination. The Chilean police had to know that this guy was part of his bodyguard. They wanted to separate the President from his bodyguards or create a diversion for a reason. We need to pray for President Bush.
